Guess who won the 2008 WAMI CD Roulette Band Contest?

We are pleased to announce the Liberty Bluegrass Band has won the Grand Prize at the 2008 WAMI CD Roulette. Our song that won the contest was Rank Stranger to Me from our current release “Life, Liberty Bluegrass and the Pursuit of Happiness”. LBB is trying very hard to reach beyond the traditional bluegrass music scene by being involved in the whole music industry. Good music is always going to be good music. We were already nominated as 2008 WAMI Bluegrass Band of the Year.

Grand Prize is a one paid slot at either Summerfest, WI State Fair or Bastille Days stages. Exact stage and date TBA.

About WAMI: The Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to educate and recognize the achievements and accomplishments of individuals in the Wisconsin music industry. Here is how it works.

Judging the competition were:
Doug Johnson of Pursuit Live Entertainment and representing Summerfest.
Tamara Anderson, a well know vocal trainer who has worked with many Grammy winning artist.
Ramie Sepinoza of Firebird Recording.
Ryan Miller of FM102, a Milwaukee area rock station dealing with mostly independent artist.

17 bands entered. The songs were selected in random order. A musician gets 90 seconds to play their song, and then judges critique it and give feedback. It's great for the musicians to get a feel for what they need to work on because the judges have been recognized in the music industry both regionally and nationally.

2008 Winners were:
1. Liberty Bluegrass Band. Judges comments included, excellent mandolin tones, excellent melody, song structure good, call and repeat cool, fantastic mix of instruments, vocalist beautiful, nice arrangement, great mandolin, nicely recorded, very appropriate vocals, quality!, fresh!. Three of the four judges had something to say.
2. The Form. A rock band. These guys were tight! Very polished product with some piano mixed in. Well produced song.
3. HonkyTonk Itis, a country band. A well mixed recording, excellent engineered/produced song with accordion.

About the Liberty Bluegrass Band: LBB was formed in early 2006 to provide an outlet to four bluegrass fanatics to express our love for this music. Lead and harmony vocals set LBB apart from the field. Rick provides great lead vocals and MC duties. The band is in the planning stages for the next recording project of all original songs due out late 2009.
