formed by steuart liebig as an exploration of miniatures forms balancing the needs of improvisors and the composer.

“Kaleidoscope” is a 23-part set of miniatures for quartet that consists of solos, duos, trios and quartets that utilize written and improvised material.

“The Cherry Blossom Is Only Perfect When It’s Falling from the Tree”

is a piece based on the structure of a terza rima: a scheme of A-B-A, B-C-B, C-D-C, D-E-D, etc., in 13 discrete and continuous sections.

“Necrological Pieties”

This piece was written for choreographer/dancer Shuriu Lu (formally Belinda Cheng).
