It's been said that New York invented punk, London politicized it and Los Angeles perfected it. Originally released in 1983 by New Underground Records, this collection of 19 Rare Recordings From 1979-82 documents the birth of Punk in Los Angeles. Life Is.Vol. #1- Life Is Ugly...is the first of a three part series. These recordings have been unavailable for nearly 20 years. The "Life Is...," collection is a key sampling of this first wave. Most of the available compilations of this era were put together put to after the fact, but, "life Is..." was originally assembled while these bands were just starting out. No other collection has this kind of historic Punk songs or bands.
On this CD are early recordings of such now-legendary acts as the Decendents, Anti, the Minutemen, China White and Saccharine Trust.

Classic punk reissue!

This is a throwback to the days when comp LPs really meant something & weren't just cheapo label samplers. You get otherwise unavailable tracks from Red Cross (before the spelling change), Saccharine Trust, 100 Flowers, Urinals, China White & many others. Some killer weirdness on here as well, especially the Plebs. Now if they'd only reissue the other two volumes of this series!

Good stuff.

Awesome compilation of music. From the almighty Minutemen, to lesser known bands like the Urinals and 100 Flowers, this is a good CD from beginning to end. It covers many different styles, but all of them can be classified as punk.
