Founded in 2001 by singer/multi instrumentalist Adrien McCarthy, Lightfromadeadstar quietly slipped into the NYC electronic underground with "Valotte", a debut single that successfully combined the Bristol UK trip hop stylings of Massive Attack and Portishead with the emotional weight of bands like The Cure and Nine Inch Nails. The song and subsequent remixes that followed quickly began turning heads and eventually McCarthy was asked to perform the music for "The Love Song Of Henry Milk" a film which was awarded "Best Original Score" at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival.
Following the success of "Valotte" and work on the film, McCarthy entered the studio to record the first proper full length Lightfromadeadstar album. Two years later in September 2004, he emerged with "The Missing" a nine song collection of erotic, heartfelt and unsettling electronica. Using his unique voice as a guide, he pulled listeners calmly through the pensive first notes of the album's title track, the 80's new wave influenced rocker "The Last Time", the digital breakbeat storm of "Breakaway" and the beautiful shoegaze laced "Long Division". The album reached #3 on the Itunes Music Store's electronic music charts in March, 2005 just above The Chemical Brothers "Push The Button".
With the help of Ben Phelps, David Ley and Will McCutcheon, McCarthy brought The Missing to the stage with a number of successful east coast performances. The band's high intensity, dramatic shows quickly sparked the interest of other larger name bands and they closed out the summer of 2006 supporting Atlantic Records alternative rock outfit Kill Hannah.
After a short hiatus, McCarthy entered the studio in February '07 to begin work on the follow up to "The Missing".

Okay, this is my first ever review of an album and I'm driven to do so because I'm completely blown away it. So far it's been my companion on the way to and from work and it's my lullaby before I go to sleep. Excellent, excellent, excellent. I can't wait for a second and a third.

There is so much depth and character to this album; I have not been taken back by music from a single album ever. This cd,on top of having wonderfully written songs, and brilliantly mastered recordings, makes you feel as if you are standing 20 ft from the stage, you can feel the heat from the lights, you are there when listening to THE MISSING..

This CD was so hard to get but so worth the wait. I'm happy for them that it was sold out cause that means it is doing good but I thought I would never get a copy. Finally I did on Tuesday and I've been playing it every day on my I Pod. I can't wait to see them in concert if they ever come to Chicago.
