Album Notes

Hook driven guitar rock with electrifying melodies, classic roots, infectious sound and energy packed performances, best describes the Tempe, AZ alternative pop-rock band "Lightyear." "These guys are so good, so energetic, and so into what they're doing that if I had a radio station I'd play'em, right now" says Joe Hartlaub, Music-reviewer.com

Formerly named "Six Point Restraint.", the group changed their name to "Lightyear" soon after the beginning of the year 2001. The band is made up of 5 members, Ryan Borze, Mike Kaplan, Aaron Bland, Mike Berrelleza and Jon Thwaits. Most of the band have performed together for nearly six years.

Credits to the band are numerous: Lightyear has toured regionally from New Mexico up the west coast to Seattle on their own. As well as touring regionally with the CTN Tour with Cherry Recording artist "Stroke 9". Lightyear has opened for numerous national artists. They performed at NXNW in 1998, the Fiesta Bowl New Years Eve Block Party 2000 and 2002 and recently the Phoenix Fabulous 4th, 2003 headlining on the second stage. Their music has been licensed as soundtrack music in MTV's "Making the Video" and MTV's "Undressed". In the fall of 2002 the band was selected by LA Music Scene.com to participate in Acoustic Live series in LA. Which landed them a spec deal with LA record producer Rogers Masson. Additionally they performed in "Tour Baby" (Phoenix, Las Vegas & San Diego shows) CD Baby national tour series. They were one of 15 national bands selected to be Local Finalist in Nokia "Best Unsigned band" search in fall of 2002. As well as Semi-finalist in Discmaker's 2002 SW region competition. They have remained on the top 10 list of Mike Galaxy's "band promote" site since May 2003, as well as having their song "Hello, Goodbye" rank #127 out of 87,185 songs on Garageband.com in April of 2003

if I had a radio station I'd play 'em, right now, and they wouldn't even have to

...so I'm multitasking, talking on the phone, answering e-mail, and listening to VOID, a new CD by a band named Lightyear, when I open an e-mail from a friend of mine who is in her mid-30s and really into hard rock, and she's bemoaning the fact that she just bought a CD by a huge band (we'll call it "Quarterfront") that is all over the radio and MTV and, to her dismay, there are only two good songs and the rest suck. And I'm on like, track 9 of VOID and it's still kicking my ass from one end of casa de Hartlaub to the other, hooks all over the place, volume, energy, everything you'd want, I mean this stuff is fantastic, from beginning to end, and I'm wondering how it is that "Quarterfront" is selling millions of copy and Lightyear doesn't even really have a deal? As a Nashville songwriter recently stated to me, "Somethin's broke here, man." Yes indeedy. ....These guys are so good, so energetic, and so into what they're doing that if I had a radio station I'd play 'em, right now, and they wouldn't even have to pay me to do it. In fact, if you're in the 614 area code, e-mail me and I'll call you back and play you some of it. It's that good. Trade that used "Quarterfront" CD in and put the booty toward VOID.

I love this band! I heard them at the bash on ash in beautiful Tempe, AZ and should have bought thier cd then. It took me 3 years to track them down and I just wanted to hear more. My favorite tracks on the Void cd are 1 & 8. Probably the best 2 songs ever created in the past 10 years!
