notes

"His voice has the range and depth of Brian Wilson...an Americana magnetism that falls into a John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen vein. The contagious lyrics... quickly capture the listener." - AMG All Music Guide

Tom Lillo is a singer/songwriter based in LA. After years of studio work, engineering and producing, he decided it was time to express himself. Teamed with producer David Miner (Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett), they assembled a group of friends with credits ranging from Dwight Yoakam to Frank Sinatra, including guest vocalist, Jason Wade of Lifehouse. The result is Blue Eyed Mystic.

"...wonderfully melodic album with great tunes and instrumentation...Hell of a debut, folks." - Jersey Beat

"Four Stars...a perfect demonstration of the way folk, country and blues came together...a classic American sound." - THEGLOBALMUSE.COM

Blue Eyed Mystic delves into the spiritual depths of love and truth with the insight of a poet and the passion of a rocker. Says Lillo, "The first line on the album is, 'Just a blue eyed mystic with my mystery,' that's me; the mystic rubbing up against real world relationships."
After ten years of working for other artists, "it was an incredible feeling to have these great musicians putting energy into my songs. That was the best part of the project." And the hardest part? "Each step along the way I felt a little more naked, under more scrutiny ... but this recording was important in establishing a new confidence in my ability ... as a singer, songwriter, and musician." Any last fears? Tom confides, "Anyone can make up words and melodies, but the good stuff is a gift. I hope my stuff is good."

"A great album by an up-until-now unknown artist...Listen to Blue Eyed Mystic and judge for yourself. I can promise you won't regret it." - The Phantom Tollbooth

"Whichever song one chooses to explore, there is one thing that is certain: The song will be perfect in performance and recording quality. But the thing that will keep the listener coming back time and time again...is the comforting quality found in each song. It's like slipping on those faded favorite jeans with road-worn boots and a cool summer breeze blowing through one's hair, and thinking that it doesn't get much better than strolling with that Blue Eyed Mystic." - AMG All Music Guide

Blue Eyed Mystic is available on Lillo's own label Insurrection Records.

  • Spiritual rock and roll !
author: Laura T. Lynch of Kweevak.com

Singer/songwriter Tom Lillo draws from various musical disciplines his songs explore love, truth and mysticism in traditional rock and roll format. Lillo’s lyrics are deep, reflective and spiritual. His words leave lasting visual impressions. Tom states, “the songs on this record are sometimes ambiguous and could be about a person, or God or both.” Blue Eyed Mystic is a trip into the unknown ending in a satisfying journey. Some of my favorite tracks on the CD were “I Found Love,” “The Man I Thought I Was,” and “Walk on Water,” which had a good vibe and situations of confusion and hope common to most of us. Overall, Blue Eyed Mystic is a solid rock and roll CD.
