From the rousing, fully produced Woody Guthrie opener, Dance a Little Longer, to the hauntingly sparse closer, The Wood Thrush’s Song, Linda Hicks and producer Michael Lewis have expertly crafted a tastefully artistic album with “In the Corner.” Although everything about this compact disc is as close to perfection as humanly possible, Linda’s uniquely pure voice is both the driving force behind the songs, and the main reason this disc should be in every folk connoisseur’s CD player! But I am sure if you have listened to the two-minute song snippets here on Linda’s CD Baby site, you already know all this. What may not be so obvious is that a number of the truly inspiring songs on this CD were written by Linda, including the poignant title song, In the Corner. The rest of the album speaks for itself, with impeccable musicianship all around, masterful production, and refreshing arrangements of well-worn traditional songs such as Wayfaring Stranger, as well as delightful covers of contemporary artists like Greg Brown, Townes Van Zandt and The Waifs.
