Bobby Lindstrom has that undefinable quality shared with great stars!
author: Nancy McIntosh - Boise Blues Society
On "Lick and a Promise" Bobby truly shines. From the homage to Robert Johnson in R.J. Blues where Bobby's guitar work and the sax work of Paul Biondi get the groove started to the rough ZZ-Top like "Rock Mode" that also reminded me a bit of Ted Nugent's Stranglehold, Bobby's life experiences and music ability come together in this project that comes straight from his heart. The only thing missing here is that you can't see him live which is where he really thrives. Bobby has stage charisma and music showmanship that I've seen rarely and only in the greats! You must see Bobby live to fully appreciate his talents. Way back when...when he and I were considerably younger...I met Bobby at a barn dance way up Coos River, OR. The guys watched in awe and the girls drooled over him. Some twenty-something years later, Bobby still gets em' all right in the soul. When Bobby sings - "Your eyes could just kill me" you know he writes and sings about heartache and troubled times from his own life and touches on universal truths like nobody else.
****Nancy McIntosh is a writer, musician and former resident of Coos Bay, OR. Her ability to recognize great talent comes from her observations made from an early age. Her father, Renny Foster, spent 5 years as the Asst. Conductor and lead sax man at Harrah's Southshore Room in Lake Tahoe. During those years, Nancy accompanied her father to countless rehearsals and dinner shows featuring stars such as Jack Benny, Wayne Newton, Mitzi Gaynor, Danny Thomas, Danny Kaye, and many, many others to numerous to mention. Nancy says, "There is such a thing as "star" quality and it is almost impossible to pin down, but when you see it and you pay attention you will know you have found it."
