Album Notes

"Every year during the 1940's, my family and I spent part of the summer at the Jersey shore. One rainy day in 1948, not being able to go to the beach, I wandered into a movie theater in Wildwood, N.J. The movie was "Romance on the High Seas" starring Doris Day. From that time on I knew I wanted to be Oscar Levant or Page Cavanaugh or Barney Sloan
from "Young at Heart". As a professional pianist, over the years I have thought about the music from these and several other Doris Day films. Many of the tunes are rather obscure; some became big hits. Recently I came upon the idea of recording an album of such tunes. I had played all
of them at one time or another but I now wanted them to be sung. And there was nobody better to achieve this with than Diane Linscott. So here we offer a collection of songs done in the style of their original presentations. "Our Day at the Movies"; that's "Our Doris Day". Hope you enjoy them."

"Doris Day movies became a part of my life about the same time I was making the transition from Pin The Tail On The Donkey to Spin The Bottle at birthday parties - my ninth to be exact. Unlike these childhood games, in a Doris Day movie one could always count on the donkey's tail to be in the right place and Doris eventually coming together with the man of her dreams after several spins of the bottle. I thrived on this happy assurance and positive sense of destiny and found my inspiration from these movies, and have lived it in a movie of my own making in which I would become a singer. I did.

Part of my destiny has been the good fortune to work with Charlie Prawdzik. He is the pianist of my dreams, and although he can't sing like Barney Sloan in Young At Heart, he sure plays piano a lot better. I was delighted when Charlie asked me to work on this CD with him. Our Day At The Movies began many years ago in dreams and inspiration Charlie and I shared at a distance in childhood...we hope you'll enjoy our CD."

"With a great idea for an album, Diane Linscott shows off her gorgeous personal style in a collection of thirteen songs from Hollywood's Golden Age, all originally performed by Doris Day. Ms. Linscott is a top-notch singer, both skilled and warm, and she is backed by a sympathetic band that features the graceful accompaniment of Charlie Prawdzik on piano and the steady time of bassist Mark Neuenschwander.
