  • Take a trip to Blissville - You'll return again and again!
    author: Kathie A. Mears

Martha Lipton's second CD of fourteen original songs, superbly produced and arranged, is a treasure and must-add to your ipod faves. The multi-lingual (English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian) Lipton's musical and lyric versatility are evident be it on the dance floor, by a romantic fireside, at a Key West-style sunset party, or in a jazzy cabaret. Her laugh-out-loud-cry-out-loud storytelling is smart, fresh, sardonic, and pure Martha Lipton. She'll break your heart singing about an only-in-Manhattan impromptu after-dark picnic with a 6'6 cowboy and have you on the floor with I-know nods as boy-men parade through Blissville, Company of Fools, and Mothers and Sons. Hot Tracks not to miss: bodySoul&mind: Technodance opens this CD and gets under your skin like a deep tissue massage. Lipton's urgent pleas soar against a hot, rhythmic beat. If you're not up and dancing after the first 30 seconds, you'd better seek some serious therapy! Wrap me Up: Sexy, with Lipton's smokin' seductive vocals and pulsating big band arrangement by Chris Amelar. Blue Lagoon: Soaked in rum and Key West sunshine. A witty cabaret-on-the-road traveling song. It's the perfect pre-quel to Mega Margarita,a laid-back pop melody with LIpton's smooth as silk vocals. Caribbean Blue: Calypso-inspired love song keeps me on the beach and is the antidote for cold weather cabin fever. But, don't get me wrong, you'll be singing this song and swinging to its palm tree beat all year round. That Cafe: It's bossa nova melody stayed with me long after the song ended. Here is the perfect blend of Lipton's sultry voice in English and Portuguese and sweet guitar and vibraphone riffs sending me back inside That Cafe time and again.

  • Upbeat and ecletic

This new CD is pure bliss--upbeat and eclectic Latin rhythms, sublime mixing, instrumentals that work well with Lipton's great lyric, tunes, and vocals. Almost as good as a trip to South America.

  • A new talent on the horizon.

A cursory look at the song list from Martha Lipton's new CD, Blissville tells you you're in for a different experience. Not only does Ms. Lipton give you the title to each song, but its genre. Covering everything from tango to jazz to lullabies (and everything in between), Ms. Lipton is certainly showcasing her range, and Blissville is a wonderful showcase indeed. Her treatment of the songs on this CD makes this listener aware that there is more than just a range of musical styles, there is also a range of talent on display. Through the presentation of her music, it becomes clear that in addition to being a talented songstress, she is also an actor, poet and comedian. While her talents are broad, Ms. Lipton's voice does not stray far from a fairly narrow octave range, but within that range she does wonders, sounding like a perfectly honed, rich, resonant and velvety voice that suggest a authentic, earthy sensuality. All the songs are written by Ms. Lipton. Her lyrical poetry is playful, clever and effectively convey portraits of lived experiences, highs & lows. No doubt a new talent worthy of your consideration. I haven't yet figured out how record stores are going to figure out what pigeonhole to place her CD. One place it surely belongs is in your collection.

  • A new talent worth following
    author: Musicodendron

The biggest problem with so-called derivative music is that the style or styles referenced are either too obvious or get in the way of whatever creative use has been made of them. Not so with this album. The creative talents of this artist shine through to enhance the genres she has chosen as a means to convey her message. And that message involves an almost perfect mix of excellent songwriting, meticulous production values and interesting musicianship. Well worth the price of admission and guaranteed to satisfy again and again.

  • BLISSVILLE.... A trip to Nrivana in a jewel case.

Martha Lipton follows up her first EP, FICKLE FATE, with the new fill length CD, BLISSVILLE. And what a follow-up it is. With songs that run the gamut from Delta Blues to Techno Dance....From Jazz Vocal to Mainstream Pop, Ms. Lipton once again proves herself talented and versatile. Covering almost the entire range of musical styles she shows both adept lyrical styling, as well as, quality song craftmanship. My personal faves are 6'6 and Mothers & Sons. If you enjoyed FICKLE FATE, you will find total satisfaction in BLISSVILLE.
