A song from the latest CD, “Chasing Away the Blues” by Oxford musician Lisa Biales cracked the Top 40 on International Folk Radio. The song “Where the Buckwheat Blooms”, on the third solo album by the Ohio native, hit #32 between Cat Stevens and Bill Monroe. Additionally, Biales’ music is in current rotation at radio stations in Germany, New Zealand, Australia, England, Canada, Las Angeles, New York, Nashville, Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Ohio. "People are listening to my music all over the world and discovering a voice they like," said Biales. "It is very exciting and validates me as an artist." Biales’ soul stirring voice and unique guitar playing has created her signature sound combining a folky, blues mix of musical genres.
Lisa Biales grew up in a musical family and began her career at age twelve playing guitar and singing for church services and weddings. Her earliest influences were The Beatles, and New Orleans style Dixieland-Jazz music. From the very first time Lisa picked up the guitar, she was inspired to write, consequently, Lisa has been singing, performing and recording her original music with the very best musicians for over 20 years.
Lisa graced the stages in her teens singing Jazz Standards with her father's band and at the request and delight of the crowd, would step out on her own and sing her original tunes.
Working as a studio musician, you may have heard Lisa’s voice in commercials, film, or on one of your favorite albums.
Lisa's music is getting airplay around the world. Her simplistic musical arrangements have been called a work of art.

The album kicks off with "Take Time" a Melodic voice Lisa Biales has, expressing how she really feels in one womans aspect. A taste of soul, and the blues. A voice soft, and can take you away to a distant country with rivers, meadows and breathe taking mountain sides. Elements that have ensured true musical art. A description of "Peace and Quite" with an acoustic talent. Lisa will most definitly have you "Chasing Away The Blues." Beautiful. YOU GO GIRL!!! Keep it up!!!!!

Lisa's powerful voice draws you in right off the bat from the first song to the

The album takes you on a ride you don't want to get off. From the very first song "Take Time" that has a rhythm and blues feel. To "Where The Buckwheat Blooms" a 40's sounding standard with smooth vocals and lyrics you can see. To "Monday Morning In Crescent City" a stirring rendition of the Hurricane Katrina devastation and Lisa’s obvious love of New Orleans and its people.
Verse: (I saw a painted lady dancing with a clown
A kid was wailing cause his ice cream hit the ground
Dixieland music was parading through the street
Shrimp and crawfish cooking
The smell was just like heaven
When I walked the streets of New Orleans).
To a spiritual and insightful "Connected" . . . Now and then I sit in silence, my soul reveals a lotus flower deep within. The title cut "Chasing Away The Blues" makes you want to leave your cares behind and throw your troubles out the door. “Lascivious Itch” is a sultry rocking tune inspired by the play “Bug” written by Tracy Letts.
Verse: (He’s got a funny little twitch that’s become a full-blown itch
You know he really knocks me out and makes me scream and shout
I just don’t know where to begin he’s gotten under my skin).
The last cut, “Woo Woo” a bass guitar driven song will have you snapping your fingers and singing along has a meditative feeling to it. Relax and feel the tension leave your body as you sink into this one. In addition to drop dead vocals and insightful songwriting, Biales produced the album with Grammy Nominated Celeste Friedman, played guitar, bass, percussion, and backing vocals as well. Makes me wonder what she’ll come up with next.
