Lisa Forkish, recent winner of the Portland Songwriter’s Association’s "Songwriter Of The Year" title, not only owns the tenacity to succeed, she has also been uniquely described as an artist “with her heart in her mouth.” A songstress who isn't afraid to write with her own blood, Lisa uses ripe, intricate harmonies to stain her words. Her vocals are fervent; her piano, patient. She is nobody's baby, fool, or single genre to peg. Still, seduced by the music of Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and Stephen Sondheim, Lisa alludes to folk, jazz, and musical theatre in her compositions. “A gal Billy Joel!" exclaims Mark Simos, writer for Alison Krauss and professor at Berklee College of Music where Lisa was educated. Songwriter Jon Aldrich says "Watch for the name Lisa Forkish!"

An Original !!!
author: Leslie Boggs
It's no wonder Lisa won Songwriter of the Year. The words she writes actually have meaning. They touch my heart with emotion: One minute tears are streaming down my face listening to "Waiting," and the next minute I'm dancing upside-down with "Fred Astaire." Looking forward to more wonderful songs from this truly original artist. Way to go, Lisa!

I like this album a lot. Lisa has a really good voice, surprisingly mature and clearly well trained, but soulful, too. I like listening to her lyrics--these matter as much as the music, and she has some downright poetic lines. The combination of her voice and her piano playing is very effective, and she's got a great band behind her, that contribute a really nice, jazzy feel mostly, with definately some bluesy accents. She no doubt spent time arranging the tracks in a manner that would complement each other, and this contributes to the general effect. The cover art and photography round out a really, really nice "package" for this debut album. Thank you, Lisa!

Fabulous New Artist!
author: Sabrina Butler
The long-awaited debut album of Lisa Forkish! Previously known best for her role as music director of the a cappella group Divisi (highlighted in the new book "Pitch Perfect"), she is finally satisfying fans of her solo work with a full-length album.
With all original songs, the talented up-and-coming artist has put together a remarkable first album. A lyrical style that is sometimes folky, sometimes jazzy, the frequent comparison to Joni Mitchell is well deserved. This is a perfect addition to the music collection of all lovers of female singer/songwriters - and to lovers of music in general!
She also has a great on-stage presence - if you ever have the opportunity, make sure to catch Lisa Forkish live.
