Lisa Forkish, recent winner of the Portland Songwriter’s Association’s "Songwriter Of The Year" title, not only owns the tenacity to succeed, she has also been uniquely described as an artist “with her heart in her mouth.” A songstress who isn't afraid to write with her own blood, Lisa uses ripe, intricate harmonies to stain her words. Her vocals are fervent; her piano, patient. She is nobody's baby, fool, or single genre to peg. Still, seduced by the music of Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and Stephen Sondheim, Lisa alludes to folk, jazz, and musical theatre in her compositions. “A gal Billy Joel!" exclaims Mark Simos, writer for Alison Krauss and professor at Berklee College of Music where Lisa was educated.
