Album Notes

July 7, 2006
Local vocalist releases second CD.
San Diego, California. A release concert for vocalist Lisa Hightower's new recording "The Music Within" was recently held at the Lake San Marcos Resort. Hightower is a native of Effingham, Illinois, and has lived in San Diego for 18 years. She is the daughter of Lois Jones and Jack Hightower of Effingham.
Peter Sprague, world renowned guitarist and studio engineer with Spragueland Studios, first met Lisa a zillion years ago when he was playing a wedding gig at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. Lisa was a server there and she had just come off a long road trip with an all girls rock band (Rare Illusion). Peter invited Lisa to sing one with his band and she sang "How High the Moon". "This ought to be interesting" Sprague said. “She carved through the melody and then continued on with an inventive scat solo and sounded great. From then on Lisa has been in our loop and is one of our favorites”, Sprague said.
Hightower’s first CD, “Walkin In the Waves” was released several years ago. For the new release,
"The Music Within", she gathered a handful of her favorite jazz tunes and together with Spragueland Studios came up with some new arrangements and treatments for some old classics. There is Hoagy Carmichael’s “Up A Lazy River”, Burt Bacharach’s “Alfie”, plus Jimi Hendrix's "Wind Cries Mary" and Heart's "Dog and Butterfly" to satisfy Lisa’s diverse set of listeners.
