notes
Gosh, what can I say to you to get you to listen to my new record?
I know - I'll tell you my favorite joke. Ok, ready?
How do you make a million dollars as a folk singer?
Start with two.
Surroundings is my third independent recording and I can honestly say
I am grateful for the independence. I made the record I have always
wanted to make. I had an absolute blast making it. It took one year and
is how I imagine it feels like to have a baby growing in a womb. I could
go on with a whole bunch of I, I, I, I's and me, me, me stuff here but
hopefully you are already listening to the sound samples.
(insert fingers crossing and sheepish grin here)
Ok--One last thing, before my official one page bio. I am a guitar instructor
by day. I spend twenty hours a week playing guitar, teaching and encouraging
the beginner. What do you think I do with my free time? Play more guitar,
sing, write songs, tour from city to city and record spoken word poets or
independent acoustic artists in my home studio. I can't imagine another life
and am blessed with all the opportunities I have had to live this one exactly
this way...
Thank YOU for listening. Your support is my musical longevity.
"If you relate best to performers whose appeal lies in brave, yet serene,
delivery and sonic texturing that is subtle rather than flash, Lisa Kane warrants
a high place on your mustsee/ must-hear list." - T.Alexander, Pulse of the
Twin Cities. Today that opportunity is presenting itself on a national level.
1997 saw the end of Kane's endeavors as a funk fusion guitarist in the well
followed, well rehearsed Minneapolis punk band Zelpha Trippe. Letting go of
the luxuries of her effects processor, Lisa relied on her education in music
theory and spent the next few years honing her performance skills locally and
regionally from coffeehouses and house concerts to bars and charity events.
Song Schools have allowed for a deeper glance into creativity along side
Patty Larkin, Cliff Eberhardt, Ellis Paul, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, Don
Conoscenti and Maggie Simpson.
Kane released her debut album Old Strings & All in 1999. Three songs from
that disc were selected for a John Ervin film The Vixen Highway. Her
follow up release Sooner... than later received an Independent Folk Release
2001 award with Spectator Magazine and a feature story on the Minnesota
Public Radio Round Up program. Both releases have landed her performances
at The Minnesota Music Awards and the title of Twin Cities Favorite Female
Performer with The Minnesota Women's Press in January of 2002. She
has shared stages with Vance Gilbert, Grant Hart, Danny Flannigan, Kevin
Bowe and Renee Austin.
Lisa Kane released her third independent full length CD Surroundings in
June of this year. Her latest accomplishment features piano, saxophone, violin,
percussion, mandolin, banjo and drum. It is currently being reviewed by major
publications world-wide. On June 23rd it reached the number four position on
the most requested and played spot with KFAI. Seven days later it reached
number one and has remained there since. The date of this writing is October 14th
2002.

Lisa Kane has definitely stepped out of the shadows of the aspiring songwriter and into the national light with this release.....Her maturity in songwriting and song selection is complemented by one of the finest productions I've heard out of Minneapolis in years.....My hats are off to Lisa as she takes flight onto the national scene!!
