"I've always wanted to have music in my life. As a child, I'd herd up the neighborhood kids and put on talent shows. Maybe they were just humoring me, but they were the best audience a kid could have."
A native of Flint, Michigan, Lisa's musical abilities became apparent at an early age. By age 16, she was playing saxophone in sessions with local bands. "I couldn't play the bars, but my willingness to learn was fierce."
In high school Lisa began writing music for theater productions. "Something in My Dreams," a track from her demo release, is a product of that experience. "Writing for shows led me naturally to film scoring. There's a diversity and eclecticism there that can't be had in a traditional genre."
Lisa's performing experiences led her to Chicago, New York, and Toronto as well as several ensemble appearances with the Flint Symphony.
A classically trained musician, Lisa studied composition at Bowling Green State prior to moving to Salt Lake City. In Utah, she studied screen writing with Academy Award-winner Casey Williams. Lisa completed her undergraduate degree at University of Michigan's Flint campus, performing in every major ensemble as vocalist or saxophonist. Lisa's original compositions have also been performed and recorded by the University's Wind Symphony.
Lisa's professional music career, began as a choir director for a local church. Since then, Lisa's performed in several summer concert events, sharing the stage with many local and regional artists as diverse as Celtic harp and hard rock.
The hard work is paying off, her local performances have garnered regional ineterest and several local television appearances. Through it all, Lisa has kept a focused eye on helping the communities that support her. Most recently, Lisa performed at a local charity fudnraiser.
"I am glad to be able to support community efforts and charity events. God gave me this ability, it only makes sense to use it to help others. For me, it's not about performing. I'm a writer. Giving back is what makes me a better person."
