Pure Gold
author: Anna Terpinski
Lisa is an exceptionally gifted singer, songwriter, storyteller and artist who deserves a gold for this collection. She and her band have succeeded yet again to offer their all, and all 11 tracks are true gems. You'll sing along as the lyrics and melodies and mastery of all the musicians easily captivate and cause you to STAY...Track 2 being a perfect example. I've set a re-play record for too many songs to mention. The persisting question is....When will someone wise up and take this band where it belongs? Texas is a big state, but way too small for this gifted group of musical gold.

When I first got this CD I had a sense of deja vu with the music. While I was sure I had only seen Lisa once in Houston, the music with its highly melodic and hauntingly beautiful vocals was familiar. Then I spotted the name of Larry Cooper and the mystery was solved. Though Lisa wrote the songs, Larry's touch with the production was unmistakable. When I did the 10th Anniversary list of my ten favorite songs in North of The Border (a Texas music publication), one of the albums was by Under The Sun, a long disbanded Houston group. Larry was the kingpin in that group and this new effort is even better that that one and will surely make my 20th Anniversary list of ten best. Lisa's vibrant voice and songwriting, coupled with the fabulous musicians, combine to produce a morsel of delightful music. The moods vary from dreamy to remorseful, with a dash of loneliness to spice it up. "Stay" and "Cry Again" are highlights, but "Someone To Hold" is my personal favorite; a bouncy tune with a message. The haunting feel of "Close As I'll Ever Be" brings a touch of Cowboy Junkies to the mix as well. She leaves no doubt about her attitude on "In The Morning" with Larry Cooper's stinging guitar providing the impetus for making sure you get the full feeling. "Remembering" is an anthem to love lost and "This Road I'm On" asks for a chance to make things work. This CD is truly worth seeking out and I hope you don't hesitate. Highly recommended!!

I first heard Lisa sing back in 1995, she was with Big Holiday. I grew up with her drummer Greg here in Buffalo and used the CD-Baby site to get back in contact with him, and what do ya know, i got Tougher Skin out of it! This is a very enjoyable CD. From Lisa's vocals to her lyrics to the tightness of her band. This CD is filled with great guitar work and the bass and drums are right on! A very well produced CD as well, with nice photo's and design. This is a must have CD for you! Mouse, Buffalo New York (drummer for Tommy and the Two Tones)
