Album Notes

Just when you think you've got things figured out, along comes an unexpected and surprisingly beautiful sound to lead you astray. Such is the case with Lisa Sandell's lap-sliding acoustic guitar and musical voice.

A self-taught guitarist and singer, Lisa Sandell has given herself a curious education, first playing exclusively lap-style slide. Only after years of holding the guitar horizontally did she venture into standard finger-picking, albeit with alternate tunings. The results have been fabulous. Her first CD, little reason, is a gem of amazing clarity. A mix of original songs and traditional folk tunes, this recording is as sweet, honest and open as it gets.

Lisa lives and works in Kansas City and plays the circuit of coffee shops, bars and bookstores that is the upbringing of any folk singer. What sets her apart is her amazing ability with the both the lap-style slide and straight guitars. The combination of her guitar work and warm, sincere voice produce a music of strength and truthfulness that is rarely found in today's world.

She will surprise you.

uplifting guitarwork

Sandell…can…send a steel slide intuitively to its steel-string mark with the gentle grace that a Zen archer lets off his arrow to the bullseye.

She is unique!

Lisa Sandell's first CD is just a preview of what lies ahead for this talented and unique musician. I don't know anyone who sounds like her or plays like her - and I've been listening for a long, long time. The songs are well-written, the guitar is awesome, and her voice is totally her own. I can't help but think that Lisa is on the verge of being 'discovered': you'll be able to say you knew it from that very first CD.
