notes

Lisbeth Scott is a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist from Venice, California. Her work has been hailed as "...lushly emotional..." by Amazon.com. The LA Daily News calls her "...soulful and original...," while the Barnes&Noble review describes her voice and songs as "...lyrically beautiful."

A classically trained pianist, Lisbeth left the concert world to follow her own voice. She began a career immediately as a singer/songwriter, working with LA's top film composers and placing songs on television's top shows. Her voice is featured in The Scorpion King, Shrek, Spy Game, Sixth Sense and Legend of Sleepy Hollow to name a few. Her songs and voice can be heard on Boston Public, ER, CSI and more.

This talented chanteuse writes and produces her own material which has been described as a combination of Sinead O'Connor, Sheryl Crow, and Sarah McLachlan. Lisbeth's voice and perspective are, however, uniquely her own. Her current release "Dove," is a hypnotic blend of pop, world, and folk sounds tied together by her exotically stunning, ethereal vocals. "Dove" features members of The Seattle Symphony and was mixed at world renowned Abbey Road Studios in London by head engineer Peter Cobbin. Talented musicians such as Martin Tillman (Jewel), Phil Parlapiano (John Prine), and Gabe Witcher (The Wild Colonials) join LIsbeth on this stellar recording. Lisbeth has toured extensively as a solo artist, accompanying herself on keyboards, guitars, and African Djembe.

She has performed live on numerous television and radio programs and been the subject of an exclusive CNN interview on up and coming artists. Windham Hill's Paul Schwartz releases "State of Grace" and "Earthbound" feature Lisbeth's voice as does his current release "State of Grace II:Turning To Peace." • Heavy-heartedly light-hearted
    author: Kai Rosenkranz

Lisbeth knows how to blend emotional and tender lyrics with exquisite music. The warmth in her words comes across perfectly, carried by her beautiful compositions. This CD can be best enjoyed with the eyes closed and the heart opened. There is also a welcome freshness in her choice of words. Lisbeth avoids clichés when talking about emotions. Her love, sadness, longing and passion never sound trite, because the artist puts them into imaginative but yet very understandable words. The same goes for the melodies. The gentle arrangements (with Lisbeth playing piano and guitar herself) kindle a vast range of emotions that form a (holy) ground for her voice to unfold on. And that voice is... what shall I say... stunning? special? sophisticated? I can't wait to hear her newest release "passionate voice" (aha, an adjective for my list!) which will be out June 11th according to the official website: www.lisbethscott.com!

  • The lyrics are poetic
    author: Score! Music Magazine

At first blush I was reminded of Madonna's "Bedtime Stories" and a little bit of "Ray of Light" with its strong spiritual undertones. There's a definite likeness in this singer/songwriter's style to Dido, Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos (though not dark), and at times reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. The lyrics are poetic, centering mostly around love, with vocals and music that are beautiful... lilting... soothing...

  • absolutely addictive

  • Breathtaking Passion
    author: Carl Glen

It's wonderful to hear an artist come into his or her own, and Dove shows us how Lisbeth Scott has become one of today's most arresting and provocative voices. This is a mature, indepth look at the soul of the artist, told with colour and breathtaking passion. Scott's paintbrush is filled with vibrant hues and shades, from simple piano/vocals to full orchestra. She has assembled a group of diverse songs that cover a range of emotions and muscal genres. This CD gets better with every listen.

  • Melodic. Mezmerizing. Masterful.
    author: TD Flores

Melodic. Mezmerizing. Masterful. Lisbeth Scott has crafted a compelling portait of love with her third solo offering, Dove. Her sound brilliantly soars above the ever-condeming cage of categorization and tranports listeners to a lush and intimate landscape of truth. That is not an easy task for any artist to accomplish. But accomplished Lisbeth is. At the heart of this impressive collection is her voice. It takes an accomplished vocalist like Ms. Scotts to convey the explicitly naked and revealing nature of her lyrics. A poet with a voice! Playing up her strengths, Lisbeth boldly pushes her vocals to the forefront and doesn't mire the songwriting by over-producing the tracks. She also surrounds herself with an impressive cast of players. Most notably Bernie Locker, who co-produced a track and does some incredible guitar work, and Nathan Barr, who also co-produces a couple of tracks and provides some wonderful instrumentation. The sound is bright, which is another complement to her production. The most immediately accessible song is "You". With its beautiul melody and catchy chorus, it will surely draw in the most casual of listeners. But it's hard to remain a pedestrian listener in such an absorbing album. While "Beg" delicately builds to a beautiful crescendo, "Smokehouse" breaks the rules of conventional songwriting by throwing away the chorus and instead creates a hauntingly beautiful landcape of unrequited love. Lisbeth takes on a mystical tone with the Middle-Eastern influenced track "Push the River" and vents her enduring optimism on the rocking "Clear". And at the centerpiece of the album is "Crucial", a deceptively sophisticated song that sneaks up on you and hits you with lines like, "..everbody that my fingers touch I'm touching you." Simple and arresting. Lisbeth, both brave and vulnerable, explored the many landscapes of love, discovering simple truths for herself and left with a song in her heart. Take the time to discover this CD for yourself, you will also leave with a song in your heart. Slow down, stop, breathe, listen, explore and just be. That's the point Lisbeth is making, isn't it? Listen and you decide.
