Album Notes

The debut album from Listen Lisse catches her in some of her most wickedly indulgent songcraft; darkly crooning, atmospheric and energetic. Recorded after locking herself away in a 5 day recording binge, Listen Lisse put together a remarkably honest set of songs which are haunting, disturbing and from the darker places of the heart.

After listening to this album I have been playing it on repeat, the music really makes you want to keep listening and although it is intense it has a sort of uplifting reassurance. I really like Listen Lisse's voice, it's like a force of nature with many different moods changing from song to song. In the title track "It's Not You" Listen Lisse starts by giving a mellow performance slowly building up the intensity through the song. By the end we are given a sense of some inner world that she has the ability to draw on. It really holds you to the song. Judas is a song I really like. It feels like someone singing to you very close up and also like some one singing to you at a distance. Fabricate is the last song on the album but it's probably one of the best. It calls from another dimension. It seems to add depth in space which holds you in the song and the vocals are just perfect. The music reminds me of music by people like Patti Smith, The Cure and Sonic Youth. I really like the album and want to hear more from this artist who has a great talent for authentic song writing that is different from what you normally hear.
