Album Notes

"A Hull Full of Oil and Bone" is Listing Ship's fourth full-length release. It is a collection of songs about war, whale hunting, government corruption, love - all loosely wrapped in recurring imagery of water, earth, sun. Stylistically, this record takes a unique look at the folk ballad and the classic country song, combining traditional Americana 3-part harmonies, grand string arrangements that harken back to easy-listening 70s pop ballads, and dreamy vibraphone-drenched layers of sound. The instrumentation is: 3, 4, or 5 singers, violin, viola, acoustic bass, various classical guitars, electric guitar, drums and percussion. All of the musicians on this record are songwriters in their own rights, thus bringing to the table unique qualities of their own playing.
