Marjorie Clarke
A Sweet Melody
During the past forty years, Marjorie Clarke (known as “Margie” to friends) has shared the stage with a host of entertainment greats: Nancy Wilson, James Brown, Gladys Knight, the Temptations, Wilson Pickett, Tina Turner, Curtis Mayfield, Chuck Jackson, Carl Anderson and many others..
Yes, Margie sings and belts with the gusto of Aretha Franklin, the soul of Gladys Knight, and the raunch of Tina Turner, bringing all who listen to a frenzied state of applause.
As an employee with the Department of Parks and Recreation for the last 31 years, her roles has been entertainment specialist, call center operator and receptionist. She presently tours the city as a music specialist. She is the main vocalist with the Department of Parks and Recreation, performing for the Mayor, city festivals, special programs and events.
With a singing career developing as early as 4 years old, and at sixteen professionally, Margie and the female group known as the Four Jewels, starred as the opening act for the James Brown Revue in such showplaces as: the Howard Theatre, Apollo, Royal, Orange Bowl, Club Harlem, and the Copacabana in New York. Her talent has taken her to the stages of USO Shows with Bob Hope, to Vietnam, and many
Job Corp sites throughout the country. Margie is a recording artist and has recorded three top selling hit songs in the early 60’s, Opportunity, Johnny Jealously and Loaded with Gooddies. Margie performed with the Rickie Loza Combo in El Salvador at Club La Luna during the jazz festival in July, 2001. The club was packed each night. As the lead vocalist, with Jacques “SAXMAN” Johnson and Friends, Margie continues to amaze audiences wherever she sings.
In commenting on her successful career, Margie states, “My life has been wonderful. God has blessed me with a gift that I must share with the world. I love it, enjoy it, thank Him for it, and will continue to do it always.”
Special thanks to Jacques “Saxman” Johnson my manager, producer, and music director.
I dedicate this CD to my daughter, Mishawn Clarke, my granddaughter, Mahni Starr Clarke and the Jewels.
