Album Notes

"A true jewel of the Canadian prairies" - Big Dave McLean

"At a time when so much "roots music" actually doesn't seem to have any roots, Cobbler Shop Sessions occupies a unique place: a sort of love-child of Tom Waits and Memphis Minnie. I, for one, can't wait to hear the next installment." - Tim Williams

“Little Miss Higgins is a fresh and welcome addition to the Canadian blues scene. I love her selection of material, old school vintage sound and her enthusiasm. She has the respect of and holds her own with veterans twice her age. And I love that she's based out of Nokomis, Saskatchewan.”

Holger Petersen

Bewitching like moonlight on water- Little Miss Higgins captivates audiences with her original, gutsy, spirited country blues songs. Crystal clear vocals that go on forever and amazing guitar licks - she’s the real thing! Though she’s raring to go anywhere from solo to a full band of minstrels, Little Miss is mostly accompanied by partner/guitar player Foy Taylor. Together they are creating innovative guitar work rooted in a country blues style and an unforgettably “top hat” stage show.

Little Miss Higgins was born in southern Alberta and raised in Independence, Kansas. As a young girl she began her love of music by carving her name into the mini grand piano that her father brought home from a local saloon.

Growing up playing piano, she now uses guitar and voice as her main instruments as well as her theatre background to bring a “refreshing sound and story to the stage”. As a songwriter, she has been influenced by a range of artists from Memphis Minnie and Big Bill Broonzy to Joni Mitchell. Higgins has the ability to paint pictures with words and engage audiences with unabashed passion and presence.

She has shared the stage with, to name a few, Big Dave McLean, Corb Lund, Suzie Vinnick and Tim Williams. Spring of 2006, she and Foy created music for and performed in the Globe Theatre’s production of Joey Tremblay’s Oh, George. She was nominated for a 2006 WCMA for her album Cobbler Shop Sessions and won the IMA Vox Populi Award for her song “Ferry Boat Blues”.

Produced by Tim Williams, her second CD, Junction City, is an extension of the authentic songwriting and performance styles of Little Miss Higgins, as well as, Foy Taylor and the “junction” of talent that helped create the album.

I first heard LMH on the CBC in a live concert & I had to hear more. She seems to be practically unknown in the US. I enjoy the wildness in her voice, and her bluesy lead guitar playing. A joy to listen.

Good stuff. Unexcelled production standards. With only two discs, Miss Higgins is already one of my favorite performers. I purchased her second CD, Junction City, first. It is ferocious-great. Thus I am somewhat restrained in my praise for Cobbler Shop Sessions. I would still recommend CSS if you are a folk or country or blues enthusiast or just a fan of great vocals.
