Album Notes
"Electronic music has always been a personal passion and love of mine. The eternal conflict between technology and the organic." Little Plastic Pilots is the brainchild of LA native Sam Nelson. Stemming from a creative outburst while touring with his rock outfit H is Orange, Little Plastic Pilots Combines Nelson's love for organic elements of early analog electronica with a serene and almost nostalgic sense of esthetic to create a soundtrack of his life and experiences. Alongside H is Orange and LPP, Nelson works on other various projects utilizing visual media and performance art. When Nelson was young, he had fond memories of his brother building model airplanes. He was fascinated with the time spent on meticulous details and often felt a connection to the pilot inside these small replicas. Nelson kept a collection of these pilots, and he feels his songs are much like these hidden personal treasures. Inspired by artists as diverse as Autechre, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Four Tet, and Fugazi, Little Plastic Pilots is Nelson's most personal and sensitive project to date. "Little Plastic Pilots is that interpretation for me; It is a reflection of my life, encapsulating my dreams, hopes, and memories while giving me a soundtrack to experience from. It is a perfect representation, in musical form, of who I am"

it was better when boards of canada did it
i really like some of the sounds that were produced for this record, i only wish the composition didn't sound almost identical to that of boards of canada. i think that if sam were to write some more original material, it could be very good. but as it stands, boards of canada did it better.

Great CD!
It's something nice to listen to when you just want to "listen"! Thanks, Sam for a job well done!

You don't even really have to be an electronic fan to appreciate this one. Anyone who loves a good chill-out album will find plenty of savor in this delicious little morsel. At the end of the day when the electric, frazzled buzz of the world is reverberating between your ears, trade it in for Little Plastic Pilots and observe the very last of your tension and cares melt away like the wicked witch of the west- absolutely dissolving into a puddle, even possibly evaporating with a defeated cry, "I'm melting! I'm melting." Ahem, but I digress. These cool, dreamy, liquidy tracks from their self-titled album seep into the subconcious mind, calming, soothing and grooving with a close-your-eyes comforting backbone to keep you grounded with smart, heartbeat rhythms. From Sigur Ros to Aphex Twin, Portishead to Air fans, this album will entrance them all.

Nice view of things to come
This album has it's high and low points, and overall the highs outshine the lows on almost every track. The sounds used are nicely thought out and the production on the album is top notch. My main complaint is the similar use of structure throughout the album that nods to a certain Scottish duo. Influences are a good thing, but they can work against the art sometimes as well. While all the music here shows an impeccable attetion to detail, some of the details have been used before in an almost identical way. The songs here range from head nodding hip hop to ambient washes. All the atmospheres on the album are used to the songs advantage, slowly losing the listener in a fog of nostalgia. I look forward to future releases, and I do believe that when LPP gets his own voice, it will be heard loud and clear.

this is truly an awsome cd

this is good - there's a depth to this music that I hear in the artists who supplied the inspiration - each little plastic pilot is a unique object of beauty - thank you, sam

Editor's Pick
As self-titled debuts go, this probably takes the cake this year. A punctuated electronic experiment, Little Plastic Pilots forge ahead of the watered down electronica scene as of late with imaginative groove and bass-heavy beats. Composed while on tour with his rock outfit H Is Orange, Sam Nelson the main force behind Little Plastic Pilots, is audibly stunning and offers aural fixations for not just the mind but the inner soul. The downtempo vibe is augmented nicely with beautiful soundscapes that he seems to effortlessly paint with the fascinating genius of simplicity like a Sonia Delaunay. Shine up the sheen on those Grammy’s folks, this here’s a guarantee.

Very good purchase!
Until I listened to sample music, I'd only read recommandations about this group. Now I've became a huge fan! This is one of the best albums I've heard this year! You will be very happy with this purchase if you like the samples you hear on this site (or others about this group). Do yourself a favor, buy this album!

So Damn Good
This disc feels like an important document that needs to be heard over and over again. yeah, i hear certain influences, but so what, there is definitely " a something here" here. Excited about more to come.
