Album Notes

The Groove-Oriented Soul/Rock Band That Will Electrify You!
Live Honey music is both powerful and soothing, hot and cool . . .
Sophisticated, but based very simply and steadily in the groove.
Uplifting in a way that makes you contemplate the very art of being.
Many words describe it, but you NEED to hear it . . .

Live Honey was born out of the crucible of the New York City music scene, with its constant influx of musicians from across the spectrum of styles. The band was founded in the spring of 1997 when songwriter/guitarist/harmonica player Steve Roiphe, a native New Yorker and Harvard grad recently returned from an extended musical journey in New Orleans, set out to find the perfect group of musicians to interpret his songs. Sounds simple enough . . . but two drummers, five bass players and two lead singers later, they had finally arrived at the perfect combination by the spring of 2000.

After Steve, the first to become a true Live Honey was Tony Gibson, a hard-hitting finesse drummer (didn't know you could be both, huh!) who had made his way to Manhattan after learning his trade at home in Barbados and practicing it in Southeast Asia. You could say that Steve and Tony "collected" bass players for a couple of years until the true man, the "N" man, Glenn Nataupsky parachuted in. Glenn is the "rocker" of the group, bringing a heavy influence that lends a new dimension to Steve and Tony's grooving style. Glenn, weaned in Massachusetts on hard rock, is well schooled in all musical styles and has paid considerable "dues" as a sideman for several big-time Broadway touring companies.

The other newest member of Live Honey must be described all by herself. She is a performer who stands apart . . . lead vocalist Shelly Bhushan, a Texan who is taking New York by storm. Shelly came to the group by what seemed like destiny when the band decided that, although Steve was doing a fine job of singing his songs, they wanted someone who could SING THE HELL out of the songs. At about this time Shelly, a classically trained singer with a lot of blues and jazz experience and a soul-rock heart, was surfing the web in Texas and found an ad that inspired her. Barely a month later, she was in Manhattan melding her sublimely powerful voice with an instrumental foundation that was ready to burst out and capture the whole New York scene . . . .

Live Honey's fan base in New York is growing with every show, and they plan to start touring soon, following the recent release of their first CD, Move Yourself, in December 2000. Their truly original sound, flavored with Funk, R&B, Rock, Latin and even the occasional Country twang is captivating audiences, and is poised to make a dramatic impression on the world.

Pollinating styles and fine musicianship!
author: Laura T. Lynch of Kweevak.com
Live Honey is a cross pollination of rock, soul, blues, folk, reggae, Ska and R & B. Their lead singer Shelly Bhushan is a classically trained vocalist who sings with power and versatility. Diversity is the best way to describe this compelling ten-track collection. Various musical influences and instrumentation makes each song a pleasant surprise. The CD opens with the exciting 'Inspire' with its edgy guitar leads, potent beats and rousing vocals. It also has funky bridge changes and layered instrumentation. 'Play Love' brilliantly blends a happy go lucky reggae groove and harmonica with a cool jazz solo that moves back into the opening chords, very original. 'Let Me Grow' closes the collection with soulful vocals melding with glorious guitar work including the slide and a smooth subtle beat. Live Honey is a sweet mix of musical styles, dramatic musicianship and intoxicating vocals!
