Album Notes

Trained classically starting at age 6, Liz honed her chops in childhood concerts and competition, playing the Northrup stage at age 11. She rebelled against classical music in her late teens and started writing rock and roll. She lost interest until her late twenties when she was invited to join a new Minneapolis cover band that was looking for original material. The project went bust, but Liz formed a connection with Tracy Gazett (Dan Bergman)and the two of them, along with Roxxy hall, formed The Social Club. They had lots of good tunes and times, playing the Minneapolis club circuit, developed a large underground following, but had little financial success. Liz found that single parenthood and rock and roll was a difficult mix and after several years disbanded the group. The climb up the corporate ladder was tough, and raising a child on her own even more so, but during these years Liz spent her little free time observing human nature and never stopped playing and writing music. In 2005 Liz suffered a severe head trauma and, during a painful recovery, made a promise to herself to go back and finish what she had started. Tiny Light is the result of that promise. She enlisted the help of Todd Fitzgerald and Brian Johnson at Winterland Studios to help bring the project to life. Contributing musicians on the album include Christopher McGuire (12 Rods, Kid Dakota) on drums, Kenny Wilson (Becky Schlegel, Storyhill) on guitar, Jim Anton (Jonny Lang, Dean Magraw) and Aaron Anderson (The Revamps) on bass, and Jessy Greene (Wilco, Foo Fighters) on violin. The songs on Tiny Light reflect the experiences, emotions, observations and social conscience of a mature writer who understands the life is precious, that love is a necessary (but at times a painful and elusive) thing, that perfect parenthood is a myth but a worthwhile thing to strive for, that everyone should drive the Big Sur at least once in their lifetime, that we live in the greatest country in the world and should be proud of it and protect it, and that every day we wake up feeling good we should be grateful.

Terrific album. The more you listen to the songs and really hear how the the lyrics and music move each other, the more respect you have to have for Lizzy Rain. Hard to believe that it's a first time album - what a great new artist. Thanks, now I've got American Girl and Little Round Suitcase stuck in my head! Can't wait to hear my favorites on the air!
