Generaciones, features nine original tunes written by Musical Director, John Calloway, Armando Peraza and students Adam Nash, Natalie Cressman, Katie Reutter, Noah Frank and Maxime Stinnett. This award winning group combines LIVE recordings from the San Jose Jazz Festival in 2008 and studio tracks recorded in 2009. Legendary Afro-Cuban percussionist, Armando Peraza, performed on his original song "Viva Peraza". In addition to Peraza, special guests John Calloway, Jeff Cressman, Michael Spiro, Orlando Torriente, David Flores and Arturo Riera; directors , parents, educators and mentors gave rise to the CD's name, Generaciones which means "generations" in Spanish.
The Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco, or LJYE, is a performing group of talented musicians ages ten to 18. Their repertoire features Latin jazz classics and original compositions at a level that has landed them gigs at the San Jose Jazz Festival, the KCSM Jazz Festival, KGO Radio, Yerba Buena Gardens, SF Museum of Modern Art, Paramount's Great America and the world-renown jazz club, Yoshi’s.
