Album Notes

Born on the streets of Brooklyn, the sounds of L Maestro Presents blend alternative hip-hop with the ecstatic energy of electronic dance music performed with live instruments. Dimensions of Common Experience is a reinvention of five musicians drawing from each of their lifetimes of experience with music and pouring it into the recording studio.
The group started as a recording project, conceived by members Taylor McFerrin, Nigel Sifantus, and Jason Fraticelli. When touring and performing with their former group Grandfather Ridiculous, they decided that they wanted to re-direct their efforts into the recording studio after years of performing live. ìOriginally we just wanted to focus on writing, and put down to tape some of the material we had been working on in our home studios over the last few years and explore it in the process of creating a great album as opposed to a live show,î says Sifantus, ìbut once we started, it became this whole other entity which was amazing.î

The first step was bringing in Lyricists Jubei and K.B. The two had been recording and performing with McFerrin in the group The h.art Foundation. They were intended to be included as featured artists on several tracks, but the chemistry between the five individuals was undeniable. After a few hours of working in the studio it became clear that this recording project was evolving into a coalition. During the following weeks, the group took material they had all developed over the years, some full songs, others just fragments of lyrics and sounds, into the studio, and bounced them off of each other. ìThe music was just there,î says Jubei, ìthere wasnít nothing planned, everything just dropped in like it was meant to be.î All the pieces easily fit together as though these ideas, built by the five over the course of years were all brought together at once by some cosmic conductor spirit who became known as L Maestro. In the form of an album, L Maestro Presents Dimensions of Common Experience, and we are all officially along for the ride.
