Nice ballads and a very nice voice. I would recommend this one.

I like this CD a lot. I played it a couple of times before I was able to fully appreciate the lyrics. There are a lot of different moods on the CD and I like the versatility. She also has a beautiful voice...very sweet but with a definite mature tone. I would recommend this CD if you like ballads with some lyrics that have depth to them.

I came upon "The Lilac Testament" by accident, through a friend-of-a-friend sort of thing. I'm certainly glad that "accidents happen." When I heard the first 2 full length tracks, "Swing" and "Another Beautiful Girl," I definitely thought "hmmm, this is country -- not my thing" -- but found the tunes catchy enough and the lyrics edgy enough for me to keep listening. What I wasn't prepared for was that after this relatively lighter introduction to herself, Lori Michaels asks her listener to get serious. With a voice and style that reminds me of a softer and sultrier Melissa Etheridge in her earlier days, Michaels, through her thoughtful lyrics rife with double entendre and symbolism, speaks to us about love, relationships, introspection, expectations and disappointments. Each time I play this CD I walk away deciding on another track as my new favorite, or hearing a lyric that I didn't catch the last time I played it. I then remember why I love taking a chance on new music so much.
