Album Notes

Since 2001, The Lipsey Mountain Spring Band has been successfully mixing obscure old western swing, cowboy, and calypso songs with recognizable classics like "Don't Fence Me In" and "Zombie Jamboree." For several years, LMSB hosted a cabaret-style variety show in the back room of San Francisco's Hemlock Tavern, building a considerable following and a reputation for presenting familiar sounding, foot-stomping music in a wildly energetic and interesting light, featuring three-, four, and sometimes five-part harmonies on top of their unusual mix of instruments--including banjo ukulele, guitar, stand-up bass, steel pan, trombone, coronet, penny whistles, lap steel guitar, fiddle, and percussion.

Various configurations of the group have toured the United States and parts of Canada several times, consistently converting younger bar and club audiences as well as tickling the memories of older folks.

Cayman Cowboy, the band's first full-length CD, features clip-clop-along islandy renditions of songs made popular long, long ago by the likes of Milton Brown, Bob Wills, and Woody Guthrie, as well as calypso legends Wilmouth "Papa" Houdini, Growling Tiger, and Harry Belafonte.

You're going to have to hear this to believe it.
