IN THE MIDDLE

To the degree that contemporary rock music seems to have forgotten it's royal heritage, this maiden voyage into the mainstream by talented singer/songwriter/guitarist Sean Loether is nothing short of a compelling reminder of how multi-faceted and enjoyable roots rock music used be! Paying homage to a variety of influences before him, Loether provides a compelling mix that rarely fails to entertain, served complete with your choice of introspective, humorous or self-depreciating lyrics (remember when lyrics used to matter?). Standouts (in playing order) include "Same Situation" offering an inspired trailing lead riff; "Gimme Back My Love" is a creaky rocking-chair blues number that Ronnie Van Zandt would’ve learned at age 3 on his grandpa’s lap; "Talkin’ To You" is a toe-tappin’ honky-tonk Hiatt-esque tune dripping with lyrical humor and irony; "Strangers Again" recalls Fogelberg at his beautiful high-mountain sentimental best; "Slice Of Heaven" suddenly becomes a convincing musical tribute to Slowhand himself; "Somebody’s Fool" offers amusing self depreciation with an enjoyable Georgia Satellites’ flair; "Who’s Gonna Lead You?" is the tour de force replete with stinging lead guitar riffs as Loether confronts the listener with the challenges of our time, leaving you with an appetite for more work from this up and coming artist. This standout new release is more than the sum of it’s parts, as Loether successfully meshes his successes with originality, exposing himself along the way. Give it a “spin” while you toil away your day, and after a few listens it will bare some secrets, lasting impressions – and will not disappoint!
