JAN MICHAEL WINS BEST FLUTIST OF 2008 AT THE ISMA FOR HIS CD UNITY!!

ONE HEART ONE SPRIT:
Description: Beautiful songs with poetic emotional flute melodies; seven solo tracks and eight with gentle acoustic accompaniment such as acoustic guitar and piano. Some of the songs were recorded live in the mountains near his reservation, providing a natural fullness to the flute. Eleven hand-made flutes were used, including drones (double flutes), river-reed, and an ancient bone whistle replica. “Each song on this recording is amazing. Looking Wolf shares his heart through several native flutes with both modern melodies and old, traditional sounds. The originality and musical harmony of this CD make it a ‘must have’ for any music collection.” ~Northwest Music Company

The whole CD is a pleasure to listen to. Each track reflects Jan Michael's hauntingingly beautiful command of the Native American flute. Perfect for meditation or just moments when you need to let go of earthly worries and reconnect with the All That Is. I am so pleased that I arrived at Jan's website. Another reminder for me that there is no such thing as coincidence.

Our third grade team is working on teaching students about Native American culture. I was thrilled to share this amazing collection of songs with my students. Now I need to purchase the exceptional cd for myself, because I will need to return the one we have been listening to, to our incredible music teacher! Fabulous!

I enjoy One Heart One Spirit so much that I decided to send a copy of the CD to my daughter. We have both fallen in love with Looking Wolf's beautiful music.

  • Beautiful!
    author: F.E. Bergeron

I know, I wrote a review once before, but I just had to write another one. The more I listen to Jan Michael's One Heart One Spirit, the more I love it. I always wondered what my eldest granddaughter meant when she said something was too pretty. Thanks to Jan Michael, I now know. Mere words just don't do justice to his music. It is just too beautiful to describe.

  • You won't be sorry you purchased this one!
    author: Christie

This CD just takes you to a whole different world. So soothing and peaceful. Keep making such beautiful music.

  • Absolutely beautiful
    author: F. E. Bergeron

I originally purchased the CD for Teardrops/Virginia's Song. The only problem is that it is so beautiful that each time I hear it I want to cry. I figured I would be satisfied if that was the only song I liked on the CD, but they are all marvelous. Jan Michael is a wonderful flutest. I especially like One Heart, Horse Spirits Dancing, Wind Dancer and Lonely Moon.

  • A truly beautiful piece of artistry!
    author: Kim Loftis

One Heart One Spirit by instrumentalist and composer Jan Michael Looking Wolf Reibach is a singularly beautiful piece of artistry. There is a haunting majestic beauty in this music that can bring the listener a profound sense of peace, and from which one can truly engage in the power of spirituality. With this album, both goals are possible to achieve. These pieces were recorded on a variety of flutes, and over half of them were recorded with either guitar or piano accompaniment, but with the flute always at the forefront of each composition. Each song provokes stunning nature imagery, and each piece contains such obvious reverence for nature and Spirit that it is actually palpable in each listening. I loved the fact that Reibach actually recorded several of the tracks out in nature, which adds enormously to the spiritual nature of this recording. As to the compositions themselves… each piece is different, evoking it’s own images, emotions and soul-stirrings. There is such uncompromising integrity in every note of this recording. The instrumentation is really beautiful, and the use of native instruments, EG drum and rattle, along with guitar and piano, is truly lovely. In listening to this music, one is taken to a distant and timeless realm where peace and beauty surround and enfold you. It is impossible to feel stressed while being absorbed in artistry such as this! Even if you’ve lived under a rock throughout your life, and have never had the distinct pleasure of hearing native flute music, I can’t imagine how you wouldn’t be exceedingly moved by this music! Jan Michael Looking Wolf Reibach has gifted us with a mesmerizing album filled with healing, hope and extreme beauty. Any enthusiast of Native American flute music truly must give this a listen. And if you’ve never had the honor of hearing music such as this, I would strongly encourage you to open your heart and allow yourself to be transported by this recording. Masterful work!

  • This music touches my soul
    author: Lorene Lombardi

The music on this CD touches my soul and brings me great joy. The beautiful haunting sounds of the flute and drums takes me to a place of great spirituality and peace. The selections done in nature give a real sense of what spititual harmony is. I commend both Jan Michael Looking Wolf and Harris Dancing Raven for capturing the beauty and essence of their instruments and heritage.

  • A perfect serving of tone, timing, rhythm and musical phrasing
    author: Joe Ross

A member of the Grande Ronde Tribe in Oregon, flutist Jan Michael Looking Wolf Reibach plays contemplative Native American music on his first (“Peaceful Journey”) and third (“One Heart One Spirit”) albums inspired by the hawks, rain, wolves, moon, owls, ocean, sunrise, sunset, horses, beauties of nature, and his ancestors. His albums contain both traditional and contemporary pieces that allow him to demonstrate his proficiency and skill with a number of instruments and styles. While always keeping the flute in the forefront, some pieces have been arranged with guitar, drum, rattle, and synthesizer. Some are presented only with solo flute. On “Peaceful Journey,” liner notes are minimal, but three of the twelve compositions (Sacred Rain, Coastal Dream, Thunder People) are credited to others. The overall musical trek is one that takes us to calm, serene places. Reibach’s restful music is an honest, uncompromising vision that makes clear statements. He plays with depth of feeling in each note, and the emotional resonance of his statements bridge all cultural boundaries. “One Heart, One Spirit,” Looking Wolf’s April, 2004 release, offers fifteen tracks -- seven solo pieces and eight with acoustic guitar and/or piano accompaniment. I was happy to see the CD’s jacket acknowledge three flute makers (Roger McGee, Odell Borg, and Jeff Calavan). Eleven different handmade flutes were used, including drones (double flutes), river-reed, and an ancient bone whistle replica. Guest artists (Michael Carno, Harri Dancing Raven Reibach, and Dow Yeh) are also credited. To fully incorporate his natural surroundings, some of the songs were recorded live in the mountains near the Grande Ronde reservation. Reibach knows how to put his ideas across with content and character. His passages are economical, and he uses his musical notes in a resourceful manner that recognizes the Native American understanding of how to live within limits. Without excesses, Looking Wolf’s “One Heart, One Spirit” is a perfect serving of tone, timing, rhythm and musical phrasing. Aficionados of Native American flute music will be very pleased. (Joe Ross, Roseburg, Oregon)

  • This is a must have CD for any music collection
    author: Ronald Payne

Title: One Heart One Spirit Artist: Jan Michael Looking Wolf Reibach Link: http://www.cedarfeather.com/ Cedarfeather Productions The Native American flute is a unique instrument that not only produces hauntingly beautiful music, but can evoke deep emotions as well. Jan Michael "Looking Wolf" Reibach is an artist, both as a composer and performer, who does just that with his music. And he does so exceptional well with his latest release, "One Heart, One Spirit." Looking Wolf gives a diversity of sound tapestries in the fifteen songs on the recording. Over half, such as the opening song "Dragonfly" and the title song "One Heart" have either guitar or piano accompaniment. The rest are solo pieces, some accompanied by drums, such as "Red Hawk Calling." One song, "Tribute To The Ancestors," is played on a bone whistle replica. Yet each is a unique journey, shaped in part by the different flutes played, and none of the accompaniments over-power Looking Wolf's flute. We are given a special treat with a solo piece called "Snow Owl," composed and performed by Looking Wolf's 14 year-old brother, Harris Dancing Raven. We will look forward to future recordings of his own from this talented young man. My personal favorites include a solo piece called "Sunset Canyon" and two accompaniment pieces "Horse Spirits Dancing" and "Wind Dancer." You will of course find your own favorites from this well-crafted recording. Looking Wolf views each song as a road or path in life's spiritual journey and they truly are.
