Album Notes

There Was A Time is the second offering from The Lopers (the first one is called Ghosts Like Me). Original songs by Dave McConnell and Richard Groner, along with a couple cover songs thrown in makes for a great combination of music. The members of The Lopers, Dave McConnell on guitar, mandolin & vocals, Richard Groner on guitar, mandolin, dobro & vocals and Steve V Johnson on bass also brought some of Bloomington Indiana’s best musicians into the studio to help them out on this cd. It’s easy to hear influences of bluegrass, country and folk along with a touch of Irish and rock.
Dave from the Lopers says: We’ve played these songs out for quite awhile, so when it came to recording them we had a pretty good idea what they wanted to sound like. It was fun to include a mix of live cuts, cover songs and some studio recordings on the same cd. Every song tells a story, whether it’s a young girl in West Virginia looking for someone she only has a picture of (Beautiful Picture) or simply the joys of a hot summer day, diving into the local quarry (Skinny Dipping) the lyrics are as key to the listener as the actual music.
We hope this cd is as fun to listen to as it was to make it.
