Biography
Keyboardist and composer Sebastian Lorefice has been an active and well respected member of Australia’s musical community for the last fifteen years. Based in Melbourne his career has encapsulated two streams of achievement. The first, a career as an educator and academic that has spanned a decade. The second as a performer and composer that began in the early eighties.
As an educator Sebastian Lorefice has shared his vast knowledge at several of Melbourne's leading tertiary institutions. He has been involved in teaching jazz and popular styles as well as principal study, group performance, improvisation and theory. Academic highlights include a Bachelor of Arts Degree with first class honours and distinctions for performance related subjects. These subjects involved interpretations of jazz standards and original compositions. This was either in a solo or ensemble context.
During his studies at LaTrobe University (under the guidance of such luminaries as Dr Jeff Pressing, Professor Keith Humble, Lawrence Whiffin and Joan Lawrence). Sebastian also performed in a variety of professional ensembles. Later taking lessons from the great Micky Tucker. Pop, Folk, Funk, Jazz-Rock, Modern Jazz, all styles have been performed and approached with an historical overview resulting in an accurate interpretation. He has performed at such venues as the Grainstore, State Theatre, Wall Street Billboard, The Hilton and The Melbourne Arts Festival.
From a personal view his contemporaries have described him as "extremely knowledgeable", "a gifted composer and performer", "he possesses excellent instrumental skills", "a skilled arranger and teacher" and "liked by all".
From 1997 to this point in time (2006) Sebastian has dedicated his time to composing. His days of performing in bands ended in 1997 after realizing he had gone full circle from his very beginnings in the early eighties. After this change of direction in the late nineties, Sebastian’s output as a composer has been prolific and diverse. This has involved recordings in several studios and a concentration in creating a repertoire that isn’t one dimensional. Styles such as: Contemporary Jazz; Smooth Jazz ; Ambient ; Pop; Urban; Dance; Rock; Funk ; Classical and Electronica have been featured .
These ideas have culminated towards producing a large number of demos for submission and three CD’s. The first " CONSCIOUS ELEMENTS " with fusion ensemble RPM. The second, an ep titled " SAMMY " which featured Santana inspired guitarist Paul Scodella and the current " SHORT STORIES, INFINITE CORRIDORS ".

Creative compositions and impressive musicianship
author: Xavier P. (for RadioIndy.com)
“Short Stories, Infinite Corridors” by the artistic Sebastian Lorefice is a spell-binding collection of epic electronic soundscapes. The musicianship on this CD is very impressive. “Soldier,” the opening track, sets a perfect theatrical mood for the rest of this CD. Perhaps the most compelling part of these tunes is their ever-changing structure – changes in tempo, driving instruments, drum arrangements, and emotional atmospheres progress seamlessly and effortlessly! “Espionage” perfectly illustrates Sebastian’s skill for creating music that conjures up a specific mental image. This track appropriately radiates a dark atmosphere of mystery, conspiracy, and secrecy. Even more impressive is this CD’s quality production! Fans of electronica, jazz, ambient, and instrumental music will loose themselves in this mystic adventure!

This is a CD worthy of repeated listening by one of the most original and eclect
author: Latest Recordings
Sebastian Lorefice’s latest recording venture utilizes cutting edge studio technology to present his unique hybrid of fusion, Latin, soul and electronic sound scapes. The opening track gives a good indication of the composer’s craft. "Soldier" is a stunning journey through time and space interweaving sculptured synthesizers, yearning guitar fusion, orchestral brass sonorities and ruminating piano over a haunting siren chorus. Other tracks exhibit similar narrative qualities; the bouncy funk of "Street Gangs", the unravelling explorations of "Espionage", the textured architecture of "Shaolin Temple" or the get down, soul groove with unexpected twists of "Water Slide". The meticulous attention to detail in production values is reflected in the drum programming alone on such tracks as "UFO". Overall this is a CD worthy of repeated listening by one of the most original and eclectic voices over the ether.

Beautifully executed music that delivers an emotionally provocative experience.
author: Matt Bottos
Not only does Sebastian Lorefice proves himeslf to be a skilled musician but also an accomplished composer & arranger by taking you on an emotional journey with this CD.
Tracks such as "Your inviting eyes", "Espionage" & "Lugosi's Lullaby" feature a limited number of intruments that deliver an 'airy' feel to the music, while rhthymic and melodic variations create subtle complexities that engage the listener.
Displaying an innate ability to be able to tastefully deliver a track without overwhelming the listener, Sebastian proves to be a musician that is at ease with what he does.
The CD also features some excellent examples of more uptempo tracks.
This CD is well worth a listen ... check it out!
