Halie Loren and Matt Treder have been performing music for the past several years as a duo and in various band configurations spanning multiple genres from jazz to blues to alternative folk and sometimes even a little rock to liven things up a bit. Although both have active solo musical careers, they have that rare creative connectivity that brings out the best in each of them when they combine their talents. Halie Loren is a singer/songwriter who, though young in years, is already carving out a distinctive musical niche with her own jazz-infused breed of intelligent vocal and musical interpretations that cover everything from piano-folk/rock to jazz in its purest form. Her richly textured, emotive voice and compelling songs make it easy to see how she was nominated and won the Female Rising Star and Alternative Folk Entertainer categories in the Independent Music Awards before even turning 16. Halie doesn’t just sing the songs, she also writes them with a passion that’s carried along by her dynamic vocals, and has already garnered multiple songwriting awards in almost every music genre from well-respected sources including Billboard and the John Lennon Songwriting Contests and took an Independent Songwriter of the Year award before she graduated from high school.
Based in the Northwest, Halie has performed from coast to coast on multiple stages, headlined full bands in front of thousands, spiced up trios in intimate club settings, and performed solo at showcases in New York, Nashville, and Seattle. She’s shared shows with Grammy-winning performers, collaborated with many well-known and respected writers and numerous other music industry veterans, all while going through her teenage years, preparing for college, and searching and finding her true musical voice
She released a solo project of her original material in 2006, a new jazz album of standards and originals in 2008, and a Christmas album with Matt Treder released in December, 2008. She is now in the process of recording another solo CD of originals for release in summer 2009.
Today, with a full-time music career, Halie is constantly performing, writing, recording and collaborating on various projects with other music professionals around the country. www.halieloren.com / www.myspace.com/halieloren
Matt Treder began playing piano and composing as soon as he could reach the keys. By middle school he had written the score for a musical adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the intervening years he has produced music for video games, composed for gospel recordings, co-founded Eugene cult rock band ToneDawg, toured nationally with country bands, and helped establish the annual Metropolitan Rhythm & Blues Revue to benefit scholastic music programs in Oregon.
Treder is currently on faculty at The Shedd Institute for the Arts, where he performs with the Emerald City Jazz Kings, Swang, and Dan Neal. His musical credits include Don Latarski, Paul Biondi, Lydia Miller, Amy Clausen, Beth Miner, the Michael Tracey Band, Shelley James, the Inspirational Sounds, Swing Shift, Tim Clarke, playwright Fred Crafts, Dove award winner Christopher Stevens, the University of Oregon jazz ensembles and gospel choirs, and his own jazz combos.
He can be heard regularly with the Deb Cleveland Band (voted 2008's best blues band by Eugene Weekly readers), and Sunday mornings at the Center for Spiritual Living in Eugene. His latest project with jazz vocalist Halie Loren, a frequent musical partner, yielded two CDs, a collection of standards and a holiday album that debuted in December with a CD release concert at The Shedd Institute.
