A delight of a recording
author: Mario M Zelaya
This is a delight of a recording, almost a smorgasbord of music - songs in English, songs in Tagalog, songs with full arrangements, songs with just acoustic guitar and voice, originals and covers. You may scratch your head upon seeing Bacharach and David's "The Look of Love" and Page and Plant's "The Rain Song" on the same CD, but it works! The recording revolves around the theme of seasons, but by no means in a hackneyed or obvious way. Standout tracks for me are "You're Hiding," "Sigh," "Technicolor" and "Suddenly I Feel June." The arrangements are rich and tasteful, the musicianship spot-on, and JoAnne Lorenzana's voice is warm, clear, strong and controlled – she’s a real pro. I should also mention the excellent, often enchanting, acoustic guitar work of Brant Blower, with his crystalline finger-picking and jazzy-bluesy capabilities. When wife and husband perform together, the effect is genuinely special. This is a rewarding CD all-around. Enjoy!
