SmoothJazz.com Review
author: Sandy Shore
It’s not such an odd notion really… jazz harp. I can’t think of a more emotive and affecting stringed instrument. The harp allows for a range of expression that naturally translates to the freestyle world of jazz. The attractive trailblazer is landing smack dab in the middle of radio radar with this, her 5th full band recording to date. AFTER HOURS is a stunning collection of 14 solidly crafted tunes… Lori Andrews has successfully incorporated the delightful essence of the harp into a funky, driving and deep album. Stylistically, you may hear nods to format founders and fusionists Bob James, Hiroshima and The Rippingtons. This talented player has been ensconced in the entertainment world for years performing for Presidents, the King and Queen of Spain as well as a ton of celebrities from Oprah (at her 50th) to Barbra Streisand and Clint Eastwood to performing at festivals all over the world to backing renown entertainers and appearing in movies and TV shows. AFTER HOURS is a world-class offering and features rising star saxophonist, Mark Hollingsworth and Lori’s extraordinarily talented husband, Bart Samolis on a very fluid bass, flute and guitar. Don’t let the harp angle fool you; this in no way is ‘lite jazz.’ AFTER HOURS is uplifting, thoughtful and robust. Stand outs include the buoyant “More Than a Wish,” the Smooth Jazz hit, “City Lights,” and the cool, loungey “L’s Blues.” Lori’s AFTER HOURS is a hang you’ll never want to leave… it majorly has the Feel Good Factor!

The Real Deal
author: Matt
This CD is a long awaited addition to my Lori Andrews collection. "After Hours" rivals the "Suspended" album in artwork. It's simply a cool album to own without even listening to the music. But, once you listen to the tunes, you can't stop. The energy captured on CD is only matched by the raw energy you get at one of Lori and band's live performances. They are simply one of the best jazz groups around and they are the total package. Add that all up and the fact that you're seeing this done on a harp... it's the real deal. Bravo!
