Tehachapi Trains

With the exception of the last track, all of these tracks were recorded between the winter of 1988 and the summer of 1989. That was long before the historic takeover of Southern Pacific by Union Pacific, and the wooden ties provide some nice creaking sounds that are gone forever with the advent of concrete ties. Also, the engines that dominated the Tehachapi line back then sound much different than the majority of engines that go through Tehachapi today. For some modern flavor, including some scanner audio, the last track on the CD was recorded in the summer of 1999. There are two tracks on here of the Coast Starlight which were done near Jalama Beach, CA. The recordings are all digital using Neumann U-87 and Crown PZM mics. The recordings have been kept entirely in the digital domain using ProTools for editing sequencing and level adjusting. Greg Loskorn
