There are groups that come along and totally change the way we listen, appreciate and connect to music. Los Rakas is another one of these groups. Hailing from Panama but now residing in Oakland, Los Rakas blends Hip Hop, Reggae and Dancehall music with Spanish and English lyricism creating songs that leaves your head noddin’ and body rockin’ for more. Los Rakas (Panama and Rico AKA Filthy Rich) tag team the mic with a tenacity reminiscent of Old School veterans in the Hip Hop game, and the energy and passion of the newer cats on the scene. This combination ensures that they will be on horizon for years to come.


Although they are relatively new on the scene Los Rakas has been fortunate enough to have performed with some legends at some legendary venues. They have opened for dead prez at the Regency Grand Ballroom in San Francisco. They have also played the Sweets Ballroom in Oakland where they shared the stage with the Orishas and a true pioneer KRS ONE. Other place and artist they have donned the stage with include Goapele at San Francisco State, the La Pena Cultural Center with Mystic and the Fillmore with Zion I amongst others. At each performance leaving a trail of eagerly anticipating fans waiting for the next show.

Influenced by a wide variety of artist from Celia Cruz to Nas, from Buju Banton to Makaveli, from Tego Calderon to E-40 and Yukmouth to Ismael Rivera. Their soon to be released mixtape “Panabay Twist” will display just what the people who have seen them perform already know. Los Rakas is the truth. Featuring several Bay area guest artist Panabay Twist is sure to be one of the most talked about and sought after mixtapes to come out in sometime.
