Great late night jazz/blues grooves mixed with Folk stylings and smokey vocals- a huge talent that could be compared to Norah Jones.

Album Notes

If awards were given out for smoldering sensuality in the music of female singer/songwriters, Louise Taylor would have a mantle full. The narratives on Taylor's new album Velvet Town are rich with the emotional intensity of full-grown womanhood - and Taylor delivers them with all of the keen insight, worldly wisdom and survivor's pride that richness implies.

Combining poetic sophistication with a husky, powerful voice that thrives on bluesy nuance, a deft mastery of the acoustic guitar and an enigmatically commanding presence, Taylor's recorded performances are gems of sophistication and soul. Fans of Patty Griffin, Cassandra Wilson and Norah Jones should hear Velvet Town. It's Louise Taylor's best album to date.

REVIEWS

A wonderful writer, singer and musician
author: Richard Ruane
I've been listening to Louise since her second album when she was recommended to me by a friend. She writes beautiful songs. There are always a few from each album that totally captivate me and this album is no exception. I've had this one in the CD player again this week and I've stopped what I've been doing a few times to just listen. My favorites from this album this week are "If I Had My Dream", "Midnight Rain", "Maps of Venice" and "Little Collette." My favorites do change though. Be sure to also check out "Katie's Smile" from her Ruby Shoes CD, "His Hands" from Written In Red and "Maria," "Blue Norther" and "Roll Away Car" from her Ride CD. I've never understood why she isn't more of a household name. Don't miss her.
