INTRODUCING THE FATHER OF FAYA: LOUQUE
(New York, NY) Dustan Louque (pronounced "Luke") originally hails from Louisiana, specifically a tiny community called Grand Point. For generations, the sugar cane and tobacco farming families who lived on this three-mile stretch of the St. James Parish purchased their dry goods from the backs of wagons or trucks that passed through town. "They'd buy these big bags of flour or rice," Dustan recounts. "When they did, they'd always pick the prettiest sack to make a dress out of it. Every ounce, of anything you had, was used to make the very best thing possible."
So it is with So Long, the Newlafaya/Everfine/Lava debut from this versatile new talent. Crafted in collaboration with co-writers Seth Gold and Donovan Guidry, So Long incorporates all the varieties of music Dustan has loved in his storied life into a vibrant, individual sound both fresh and timeless. Unlike many singers today, Dustan's sweet, earthy, vocal delivery is fueled by pure vitality, while effortlessly combining elements of soul, Jamaican dancehall, trip-hop, funk and New Orleans street beats into a wholly unique sound Dustan calls "Faya."
As a youngster, Dustan's musical tastes were influenced by his parents' record collection: Fats Domino, soul classics minted in New Orleans and Memphis, and the Sun Records catalog. As he grew older, Dustan became infatuated with artists from other corners of the globe. "I got into Depeche Mode, New Order, and U2. I just loved the idea of some band from England or Ireland creating this picture and allowing me to dream, taking me away from my little town."
It was a mixture of dreams and drive that helped Dustan forge his way from Grand Point to the making of So Long. There were several stops along the way: College, where he first studied piano and taught himself guitar; New Orleans, where he fell into a career as an actor appearing in commercials, yet all the while envying the experiences of his musician friends in the jazz scene; and finally New York City.
When Dustan arrived in New York in the late 1990's he was to attend the esteemed Stella Adler Conservatory to study theatre. Once there, he quickly realized he wanted to concentrate on music and left the school. Shortly after, Dustan relocated to the musical hotbed of Williamsburg, Brooklyn and sunk his teeth and what money he had into musical equipment and studio time. Three years later, So Long was born.
With the May 2004 release of So Long, Dustan comes to the end of one journey and begins another, longer and more adventurous one. "I never wanted to limit myself," he says. "That's why I moved to New York. In New Orleans, I got tired of feeling like there was always somebody out there who knew something I didn't. Now, I realize I don't know everything, and that makes life better, because I'm still hungry to learn."

Best Mixture of Beat and Voice I Have Ever Heard
author: James PeelThis is a great CD to sit and relax and be free. The songs with their mixture of beats and Louque's voice are superb to say the least. I find that this CD relaxes me while I try to work and just as well when I'm on break. I look forward to the next album and will hype this artist, CD, and future albums any chance I get. Excellent stuff.
the true soul music
author: Dylan RomeroThis is great stuff. I can't help but bob my head to the beat whenever I play this CD. Comparing "So Long" to anything already out there is nearly impossible; it is so unique. It is one of those CD's where all of my friends notice it immediately and ask "who's this?".
Why aren't there more reviews of this album?
author: Barrett J.This album is GREAT. Dustan Louque has a unique sound and voice. "Art" and "Cry Cry" are my favorite songs on the album, but the entire album is worth a listen. Louque incorporates so many elements on "So Long" that there's something for almost any listener. Pick it up you won't regret it.

author: DraytonGive this cat Louque a listen. His sound will appeal to many different people. If you dig 54 Seconds or Amos Lee, or old school soul you just might get into this CD. Very cool music. Tight stuff, interesting sounds...this Guy has a great voice too. Look for his music to gain major attention in the near future...we need more music like this. Big ups to Brooklyn!
