Album Notes

From JAZZCORNER - JAZZ NEWS - Veteran jazz singer Lou Villano releases first album - Actor. Showman. Performer. Singer. Lou Villano has been called them all; he is a one-man army of entertainment, a graduate of the Frank Sinatra school of crowd pleasing.

The Florida-based Villano has been a showbiz veteran for 40 years, but it was until 2011 that he finally released his debut album, Dreams Do Come True. Featuring spirited takes on jazz standards, the record is almost like a preview of Villano's live act - brimming with youthful exuberance, stellar professionalism, and enviable charm.

Villano was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York but relocated to Florida in 2005. His magnetic stage presence has wowed critics up and down the East Coast. After hearing Dreams Do Come True, that isn't a surprise. Villano's aching croon on "My Romance" melts the heart with the kind of seductive command that the classic blue-eyed soul singers did so effortlessly. Michael Bublé may get all the hype; however, Villano has years of experience behind his soulful voice, and the emotions that he conveys has substantially more depth. In other words, there is true substance here. The piano balladry of "You Are Nobody Until Somebody Loves You" is profoundly moving; there is weight in its quiet moments, and the blazing horns echo the fire in his passion.

Fans of TV series such as Burn Notice and The Sopranos might be familiar with Villano's face as he has had small extra parts in those programs, among others, but it is this man's vocal range and versatility that will linger with them after the disc has stopped spinning. "You need to push yourself to achieve your goals and dreams so now it was the right time to make this dream come true," Villano explained the meaning of the album's title. Once Villano's charismatic vocals soar on "I Will Wait for You," it becomes obvious that making these dreams come true is something he has waited a long time to do.
