Album Notes

Love in Song features some great Atlanta pop and rock acts covering classic Paul McCartney songs from his post-Beatle era (1970-89). Artists include Big Fish Ensemble, Tommy Rivers & Rick Richards (of Georgia Satellites fame), The Lizardmen, Kenny Howes & The Yeah!, Orange Hat, Blacklight Posterboys, Catfight!, Van Gogh, Paul Melancon, Adam Leland, The Cashmen (Brent Cashman) and Star Collector. Each band created their track as a labor of love for the enigmatic McCartney.

Paul McCartney is one of the most recognized and celebrated musical artists in the world. Love in Song offers a creative and exciting take on his wide range of musical styles. Hits "Band On The Run," "Junior's Farm," "Jet," "Every Night" and "Let Me Roll It" are featured, along with lesser known gems like "Name and Address," "Love In Song," "Girls' School," "Temporary Secretary," the instrumental "Singalong Junk" and perhaps the first-ever recorded cover of "Mumbo." All true Macca fans need this disc - don't let "another day" pass!

The first true McCartney Tibute
author: Alice Spiral
The only McCartney tribute I was aware of before this was the one by Studio 99 but here its more a labor of love as 20 Indie bands from Atlanta Georgia do their versions. Most are as he did them there's no reconstructions with altered chords. Mumbo was "translated" by 2 members of the Georgia Satellites who may be the most famous on here and its not the first time they revived a Liverpool based song.Because of the unusual garbled English on this one its never till now attracted a cover. Covers of McCartney songs have previously existed on singles by the Drifters, the Faces,Phoebe Snow,Noosha Fox and Toni van Duyne to name but 5 though this collections doesn't go for the obvious but the B sides and album tracks. The sleeve which parodies the first McCartney album indicates its Georgia connections with the table full of peaches instead of cherries

Georgia on my mind influenced Yesterday
author: Richard Astley-Clemas
I always liked nonsense lyrics and McCartney's Munbo seemed to revive the art of gibberish. So it came as a surprise to realise that the words McCartney sung are actually garbled English! Full marks to those who sussed it out! Temporary Secretary always struck me as a great melody struggling to get out and here its finally escaped. It would howver still make a great ballad. My love comes across as if it was sung by the Beatles in the early days and Girls School actually has a girl vocal. So has Cook of the House but then it had to start with when Linda sung it-great piece of high school pop but then Linda was as good as Lelie Gore anyway. Name & Address by Wings featured the actual bass of Bill Black when Wings made it giving it an authentic Elvis flavor and this version is a good copy of it. Nice touch for a band to be named the Eastmans Last track as Singalong Junk is an instrumental possibly inspired by the fact that McCartney himself produced an instrumental version for his Working Classical CD Definitely one of the great tribute albums and fitting it should come outa Atlanta Georgia, the same State that gave birth to McCartney's first influence Little Richard

What a collection!
author: Ansgar Bellersen
There are hundreds of Beatles covers, dozens of Lennon covers, but a compilation of McCartney solo tracks is hard to find. This CD shows that he deserves to be covered. And this collection consists of fine songs McCartney did apart from his old band. My favourites: Letting Go, Band On The Run, Name And Address (that's how Elvis might have sung it), Love In Song. And .. what a great artwork!
