Album Notes

“Low-Fi describes a sound recording which contains technical flaws such as distortion, hum, or background nopise, or limited frequency response.” -Wikipedia.com

In October of 2006 an article was posted in the “Boise Weekly” under “Musician Wanted”:
Looking for drummer, less is more, music doesn't have to be beaten to a pulp. Contact us at www.myspace.com/lowfirocks.

Low-Fi is born.

Members:
-Todd Sloan, guitar/main vocals
-Josh Gilmore, bass/back up vocals
-Mike Rundle, drums/back up vocals

Todd & Josh call Boise home again after living in Seattle, WA for 8+ years. They played regularly around Seattle in a band called Spyplane, they released a full length album titled “Communications Are Down” which received rotation on Seattle radio station www.KEXP.org. Prior to founding Spyplane, Todd & Josh played under the moniker International. That incarnation of the band self-released 3 EP Demos: International "Air", "Self Titled," and "Chummer." International transitioned into Spyplane. SPYPLANE self released a 12 song LP in the summer of 2003. Prior to that Todd played in a Boise band called Frosty in 95'-98. Josh played in a band called Postal Joe out of Moscow, ID during the same time period. Drummer Mike Rundle's past projects include: The Sleestacks, Stuntman (X-Treepeople) & King Salmon (X-Killdozer). Mike Rundle currently plays with Joshua Tree, Jeremiah James Gang, Karla and the Beutifull Mess & Pinto Bennett.

The group dynamics are well balanced, with the rhythm & percussive elements cleverly integrated into the mix resulting in a fresh band with tight, melodic cohesion. Songs that form around pop hooks, sonic guitar, and dynamics. Hook laden rock songs with punchy melodic attack.

Low-Fi self released their debut album “Where You Are” in September 2007. The band currently plays Boise, ID's premier venues and continues to attract more people to their fan base at every show.
Springtime will bring a bit of travel for the band. They will be playing Portland, Oregon & Seattle, Washington among other Northwest towns bringing their music to the masses.

Low-Fi is currently working on bringing their music to a larger audience than the Northwest. We have been getting airtime on college radio stations on the East Coast of the United States, various provinces in Canada as well as some European love. The current goal of the band is to create a buzz about the album, sell a bunch of copies and potentially work with a label and in the end, make a living doing what we love.

Low-Fi'a new album has received great reviews locally and the band is exited to see what the global audience has to say about it.

“'Where You Are” doesn;t sound exactly like anything else, yet it feels familiar at first listen. There are, however, seconds tghat make you stop and think “Wait, what song does this sound like?”Although it may share notes with other artists, their songs still sound fresh. Listening to this album will have these tunes stuck in your head for days, but you won't be sorry. Low-Fi aren't trying to be a straight up, pretentious rock band. They are what they are: indie, rock, country, alternative, 90's light rock, 80's pop. It's all there, and it sounds great.”

“Unlike many power trios, Low-Fi does not feel the need to beat your brains out . But standouts such as “War”- constructed around earnestly repeated lyrics and big, reverberating guitar melodies, - exude a passion thats hard not to gravitate toward. Low-Fi understands, dynamics and sonic nuance. On “Rabbit Hole,” Sloan contemplates death while a guitar gently plucks notes that mimics his vocals. Low-Fi builds pretty, dramatic instrumental crecendo during the first n90 seconds of “Goin' On” that finally explodes – blissfully – then disipates like the ripples in a lake as twin vocals take over.

Think of it this way: Low-Fi sounds like an original Boise rock band you can imagine seeing in a bar and wanting to pay attention to. Thhis concept may seem foreign, but, yes, it is possible.”
