notes

"Hard Words in a Speakeasy" reads like a handbook for bridging modern Americana with rock n'roll out of the garage... each song stands on it's own a a snapshot of unique, unfettered songcraft... Honest, unpretentious rock...

- Jeff Shelton, Amplifier Magazine

"The album is a killer, start to finish; a full rack of meaty cuts with that vinyl-era soundthat never really goes out of fashion."

- Jason Meininger, West Coast Performer

"Reputation" brings a nervous post-punk energy to exactly the kind of descending riff the Kinks were all about that sunny afternoon on Dead End Street. And when they slow it down a bit and mellow out on a poppier song like "Strange New Element," they're even better, giving lead vocalist/songwriter Johnny Leitera all the room he needs to wrap his best Westerbergian pout around the story of a man who "invented the something that led to the else/When his books got too heavy, he discovered a shelf." Great lyrics, better vocals, with some nice guitar noise to distract you while the melody invades your brain and sets up shop.

- Ed Masley, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

I really love this CD... saw your STRANGE NEW ELEMENT video on YouTube and had to have the CD.. and now another favorite song is STAY AWAY FROM ME GIRL...

  • Jon Le Tissier Rocks
    author: plymouthgooner

Okay, so I'm biased, but my mate Jon excels himself here: lovely tunes, fine rock 'n roll singing voice, and variety all for a bargain price. This reminded me of no less than the awesome Dinosaur Jr - the sound, the lyrics, just the feel of the thing - and very accessible too.

  • If you love rock n roll...you'll LOVE this CD
    author: R. Davis

From beginning to end, Hard Words In A Speakeasy is a solid, well executed rock n roll collection. All cuts are very good. Several are outstanding. When listening to each cut I found myself wondering; how can the next cut be as good as this one? And, then it was...over and over again. If you want a great rock n roll CD to listen to: just sitting around home, in the car, on the way to work, going to the beach, or just driving from A to B. Buy this one. Your money will be very well spent. And, you will be glad you spent it; just like me.

Quality anthems with a definite Kinkesque sound and rattle in the tunes. A pleasure to get your ears around.

  • Some great vocals and more then it's share of great guitar sounds

"Hard Words In A Speakeasy" is a great. I listened to it on my trip across town last night and only took it out of the player this morning to play it at work. I've listened to the album 3 times all the way through. There are some great vocals and more then it's share of great guitar sounds.

  • Audio Velvet
    author: Karen

Listening to this CD is like being wrapped in velvet. With the more upbeat songs you can see your velvet-clad self hanging on Melrose. The mellow songs curl around you like your favorite warm blanket on a cool night. Listen and enjoy!
