Album Notes

"He’s got more hooks up his sleeve than Burt Bacharach..."
from the album's liner notes, written by Steve Katz (formerly of 'The Blues Project' and 'Blood, Sweat & Tears')

Sounding Like Nothing More Than Your Entire Understanding of Life Being Jammed Into a Blender and Set to "Aleatory", "Djinni of Alkahest" is Nothing Less Than a Modern Masterpiece of Sound. Like Previous Albums By Kevin Loy, "Djinni of Alkahest" is a Solo Album In The Truest Sense, With Every Little Nuance, Niche and Nook Completely Conceived and Concocted by Kevin Loy. "Djinni of Alkahest" Isn't Music So Much As It Is an Inscrutable Surrealistic Sonic Tapestry of Unprecedented Proportions.

REVIEWS

Pleasantly Surprised
author: Sara Y.
I listened to Djinni of alkahiest in its entirty, and have to say that I was taken back by this album. The diversity of the songs keeps you on your toes...just when you think that you've heard the gist of it Kevin hits you with the funkiness of Fall Time. Step Back has to be my favorite song off the album, because I am a sucker for melodic pianos. All in all, Djinni is a masterpiece of its own kind. I cannot wait for Kevin's next release. ~Sara

A 30 Minute Prelude...
author: John Y.
Kevin's Djinni of Alkahest truly threw me for a loop. In all honesty, I was expecting it to be like an 8 song continuation of his previous album (judging from the samples) but I am glad to admit that in this case, I was gravely mistaken. This album is such an improvement over it's predecessor. It has flow, it has variation and moderation, and it at no point drags or plays out. Snow-Bound Dream has to be one of the catchiest tunes Loy has released... Fall Time really took me by suprise, especially at the end. Kevin man, you're starting to sound like me with that f@#! everything rant! Only a Fool was, for lack of a better word, beautiful, and Step Back really changed up the pace and style from the rest of the albums material. Folly has to be one of my favs, the chorus near the end was absolute genius. And of course Djinni of Alkahest was a really cool way to close the album. (I hesitantly turned the volume all the way up to hear the 'water' like noises in fear that any second a barrage of orchestration would kick in, scaring the piss out of me) You know what I'm talking about too, Kevin. My only "compaint" and I use that word lightly, would have to be it's shortened length. At 30 minutes, this seems to me as more of a prelude to perhaps an even more epic production... We shall see. -John Y.

BEST ALBUM OF 2007... seriously!
author: Jyhm C.
If you're a fan of music-- at all-- then you should buy this album, and listen to it over and over again. Catchy hooks, sophisticated melodies, sly humor, a little funk thrown in for good measure, cool album artwork (buy the CD, not downloads), this album has it all. Every song is essential. If you're a fan of Brian Wilson or Todd Rundgren, this is the kind of album you WISH they were still making. No album I've heard so far this year even comes close to Djinni Of Alkahest.

A Wizard, A True Star
author: HillHippy Tunes Tome
A great prog concept LP in the vein of I, Robot or Potatoland, we were overcome by feelings ranging from moroseness for End of Time, to irrational exuburance for Divine. After about the ninth pull on either the jug or the bong, a certain sentimental cacaphony of pleasures enveloped our feeble review synapses, forcing a 5 star review in spite of our ability to be objective, givin our fondness for the first self-titled LP by young master Loy. In conclusion, we admit to a certain reluctance to part with the steep entry price for the CD, and so debate the merits of a mass purchace in order to save vital, scarce funds for the Militia.
