Album Notes

Often compared to the late singers Karen Carpenter and Eva Cassidy, vocalist and songwriter Laura Pursell blends a combination of angelic soulfulness with west coast cool. Her voice and music defy categorization – she has recorded everything from jazz to pop to country to electronica.

No stranger to the music business, Laura was raised in Nashville, and her father is Bill Pursell, who had his own hit record on Columbia in 1963, as the artist on the instrumental single “Our Winter Love”.

“Unkissed” was Laura’s second recording under the Netcom Music labeI, and it features the writing of a long string of Nashville’s biggest hitmakers, including Holly Lamar, the late Randy Van Wormer, Marv Green, Aimee Mayo, and Chris Lindsey. Boasting 17 tracks of irresistibly hook-laden material, this project was recorded at Nashville’s historic “Bradley’s Barn”, with a large band that included a horn section and the Nashville String Machine.

Starting out with the upbeat, joyful “I Just Do” (Track #1) and culminating with the emotionally wistful “Never Say Goodbye” (Track #17), the album is held together by Pursell’s voice - fluid, clear as a bell, and a little mournful.

In January 2001, the single “What Only Love Can Do”, penned by the late Randy Van Wormer, was released from the “Unkissed” album. It charted in the ACQB Top 40, made Radio & Records’ “New & Active” List and was caught on Billboard’s Impact Airplay Monitor.
