Album Notes

Dear Listener,
When i look back on the first night i listened to 'The Wall' on a walkman, in my room, in the silence, mouth open in a scream; when i see my face in my memory explode in wonder as i set the needle down on 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', i smile. it's a bit of nostalgia i get to rediscover everytime i create a song, either in a live show or alone in my mind. You have to trust someone to really listen to their song. And, trust me. I'm trying to speak to you, too.
Thank you, Friends,
Leroy Townes

Leroy Townes and the Lone Stars are a dusty blend of country, folk, and rock n' roll. Built around the singer/songwriter workings of Beave Sorensen, the band's music is a modern version of the classic sounds of Neil Young and Tom Petty.

Read what Taxi, the World’s Leading Independent A & R Company, had to say about our song “Deep Country”:

“Classic longing feel- really nice sound and good imagery. Instrumentation is a definite strength. Vocal has a really good tone and the contrasting female vocal adds a lot of depth and character to the song.”

And a “really enjoyable track”.

Music, Lyrics, Arrangement, Production and Engineering all received 9 out of 10 points.

Had to give this album a listen after seeing them live in Tonawanda, NY, recently. Simple, clean, lovely. Harkens back to earlier times, nostalgic. The songs on this album alternately have teeth, dust, and an occasional peacock tail feather. Shiny and hopeful.

the salvation, even the reinvention, of country music

I never expected that an album to restore my faith in country music would come out of Allegany County, and I could not be happier about it. Maybe Beave and them can save country from the depths of the popular mainstream and bring it together with its true brothers, Blues and Rock&Roll. 'Into the Sea' works Zeppelin-powered rock poetry into a steady country beat, and that is just some substandard description I came up with (you need to hear it for yourself). I can't handle trying to write like a real review too much, so I won't do it, the music rocks and it floats like a lyrical soul. If LeRoy or one of the boys reads this, they should think about stopping by Better Days in wonderful Wellsville, NY - not far from Jefferson Street.

Great lyrics, vocals, everything! Never gets old. Definately a keeper, and I can't wait for the next one.

A Keeper

Highlights: Country Visions, which reminds me of the free-association rants Dylan did so well back when he was suffering from Subterranean Homesick Blues, and Song About Life, which manages to make disillusionment sound like the path to enlightment. Not too many surprises, but no disappointments, either.
