Album Notes

“Roche, papier, ciseaux” a third album for Les Tireux d’Roches

Montreal, January 9th 2006. Following a long creative hiatus, folk-trad group Les Tireux d'Roches step out of their turf to launch a third album; "Roche, Papier, Ciseaux". (label: Musivox, Outside Distribution) His effervescent production stays true to its roots, providing the intimate sound inherent to Les Tireux d'Roches’ music.

Assuming the role of musical director is long-time collaborator Jeannot Bournival, along with veteran sound engineer Jean-FranÃ*ois Chicoine (Daniel Bélanger, Jean Leloup, Arianne Moffat) .The pair left no doubt as to the audio quality of this recording. Visual presentation of the album was left in the capable hands of local artist Pierre McLeod Tremblay.

Story telling is an important part of Les Tireux d’Roches live performances. Therefore, included within the albums' eleven tracks is a tale from famed Québécois poet Gaston Miron. Here then is a refined collection of contemporary folk music; at once traditional in its content and refreshingly new.

On this album, original members Denis Massé (Lead vocals, guitar, accordion) and Dominik Lemieux (Lead vocals, Guitar, Bouzouki, banjo) are joined by Mario Giroux on Cello and vocals (David Greenberg, Jocelyn Bérubé) Francis Roberge on percussions (Louise Forestier, Catherine Major, Ipso Facto), Luc Murphy on flute, saxophone, clarinet and vocals (Funkafones) and Pascal Veillette on Harmonicas, feet and vocals (Kamendja and founder of the Montreal harmonica institute)

In recent years, Les Tireux d'Roches have voluntarily expatriated themselves on many occasions, presenting their unique sound to audiences in New York’s' Lincoln centre and at the Folk alliance in San Diego and Vancouver. They have also toured France.
