Led To The Slaughter is a unique journey into some very unique music. There is beauty, there is power, and then there is madness. The sixteen track CD was originally created in 1989, and is now finally available on CD. From the first track to the last, there is always something curious going on. Half of the appeal of the band was their ability to play any style, anyway they wished.
In 1989, there were four bandmembers. Uncle Dave Lewis played mini-guitar and sang, as well as adding keyboards. Larry Ehrenberg provided the lead and rhythm guitars. Lou Cheech played the drums. Chris Lewis played bass, some guitar, and sang a little bit.
The band began in 1985, initially at a gathering of college students from the University of Cincinnati. Initially appearing as Blaze, they began playing rock covers and quickly adding original material as they went. Uncle Dave Lewis stepped into the fray in late 1988, adding the method of his madness to the mix. During the making of this recording, the group was playing regularly in and around the Cincinnati area. The record was originally recorded on reel-to-reel tape, and was recently transferred to CD format.
What strikes me most about this record is the diversity of the music. From something as hauntingly beautiful as "Forest Murmurs" to the ragingly progressive "Compression", the skill at which the band handles the extremesis both evident and impressive. There is something for everyone in this music, from the tape loops in "Dean Jones" to the live insanity of "Pinhead". There is even a jazz-rock fusion song, "What B Hapnin". To add, the musicians played wonderfully on this record, approaching each song as a means to do something a little different (including, at times, total mayhem).
I highly recommend this CD to the general public. It's safe to say that you won't find anything like this on MTV.
