Album Notes

“Writing songs is the most challenging thing I’ve done in my life and I’ve traveled this country on the bus, worked as a janitor in a nursing home, built timber frame houses, taught math for Job Corp, measured trees in Michigan, completed a master’s degree and worked as a Park Ranger. My songs encompass all these experiences.”

An experienced musician, performer and studio engineer, Lucas Westcott studied traditional American folk music and claw hammer banjo with folk musician John Kirk. He has played with a variety of bands ranging stylistically from rock, to Japanese pop and has engineered more than 15 live and studio albums with artists of all stripes. His own songs show these diverse influences. They range from acoustic blues, to more conventional folk, to twangy country.

His self produced first CD "Something Old & Something New" is a mix of songs and instrumentals written over a five year period. His latest effort (currently in production) is a collection of songs he has been writing and performing during the last year. Slated for release in the fall and tentatively titled "Unadorned", it shows the idiomatic range and songwriting style that will mark his work for years to come.

“She’ll like the pony ride outside of the easy mart, ‘cause it only cost a quarter and it always ends right back where it starts.”
